if it is the same gauge (distance between the rails) as the rest of Europe's railways?

It's not. It's the same as Russia, which is why Russia has been able to run trains nonstop from Belgorod to places such as Severodonetsk. It's the only reason that Russian logistics have "worked" in this war.

One of the biggest undersold stories was Belarusian railway workers as sabotaging railways in advance of the invasion, so that Russia had to rely on trucks to support its attack on Kyiv (which didn't work).

But I think that Ukraine has re-gauged a few international lines.

Presently, but there is 14 bil in a new appropriation coming down the road.

Nope. I'm including the 14 bil, which was approved back in March. Unless you have a link for a new appropriation bill.

EDIT: I see the White House has asked for another 13.7 bil.

Ongoing fighting between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan forces. Both sides are using tanks and artillery. I think I saw where Tajikistan has taken some villages.

Video of a Wagner Mercenary getting into a fight with Rosgvardia soldiers in Voronezh (Russia).

The old "do you know who I am?"...always a sign of being in the wrong.

Just wait till Wagner fills its ranks with Murders and Rapists...it will be fun times in Russia when they hit the streets.

The ability to protect Ukrainian cities will allow Ukraine to really restart industry and allow more refugees to feel comfortable with returning home.

In a stunning public rebuke, Modi told Putin: “Today’s era is not an era of war, and I have spoken to you on the phone about this.” Modi’s remark, as the two leaders sat in front of journalists and cameras, came a day after Putin acknowledged he had heard “concerns and questions” about the war from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Responding to Modi, Putin said: “I know your position on the conflict in Ukraine, about your concerns that you constantly express. We will do our best to stop this as soon as possible. Only, unfortunately, the opposing side, the leadership of Ukraine, announced its abandonment of the negotiation process, declared that it wants to achieve its goals by military means, as they say, ‘on the battlefield.’ Nevertheless, we will always keep you informed of what is happening there.”

Poor Putin. The ole I would like to resolve the conflict but the people I just robbed want their stuff back catch 22.

It really is something seeing Putin publicly bitched out by Xi and Modi. From the next Peter the Great to the guy who turned Russia into just another central Asian -stan looking for patronage from Beijing and Delhi.

Mass graves being found in the formerly occupied territories. Will do nothing but stoke Ukrainian morale.

Doesn't seem like Putin is getting much out of this little tour except public humiliation.

On the other hand, it might be safer than sitting in Moscow right now.

Putin conquers the Crimea, aids rebels to control much of eastern Ukraine and then invades Ukraine himself and now he blamed Ukraine for not negotiating.

Putin had gotten his arse kicked, he has been rebuked by China, and now they are finding more evidence of atrocities. Putin is getting openly getting criticized by other Russian leaders now. I think he’s on very shakey ground now.

And the media isn't much covering it because the pace of the advance has slowed, but the Ukrainians are still gaining ground, now on the east side of the Oskil...

Seeing this in one spot only right now so it may be just rumors but Kyrgyzstan will declare martial law and general mobilization tomorrow if the invasion doesn't stop.

They already didn't like each other even though part of Russia's CIS. So, removal of Russian troops from Tajikistan was to keep them from fighting their neighbor?

Oof, then it was an occupation/police force.

Why should Russia stop them from fighting? I'm genuinely curious why it is in their interests other than avoiding refugees

This and Xi's response is really interesting and humiliating for Putin.

Of all the options that have been speculated about what does a tyrannical dictator do when his back is against the wall, this was not one of them.

It seems to show that Putin and Russia are completely subservient to China and potentially others. I don't know any other reason they would be able to humiliate him in public like this. It's extraordinary.

That might just happen. Turkey and Greece have been heating up again recently. Erdogan is threatening again.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are two countries that I would not like to have the unfortunate problem of having to live in. Both are really bad as far as corruption and human rights. Not nice places.
They also have a history of conflict. The don't like each other.

The dictator in Tajikistan is a really bad guy.

WeeWee, do you know if the Ukrainian rail network is diesel based or electrical (over head lines) based? Also, do you know if it is the same gauge (distance between the rails) as the rest of Europe's railways?

It’s mostly electric but that doesn’t stop diesel engines from running on the tracks. I think that the fleet is about half and half diesel and electric. It’s not the same gauge as Europe. It’s Russian gauge while Europe is standard gauge.

ETA: Those giant gauge changing yards that China built on the Ukrainian-Polish and Ukrainian-Hungarian borders are really coming in handy. They can change the axle sets on a whole freight train in just a few hours. Thanks China.

I try to avoid Hyperbole, but I don't know if it's just me, but it sure feels like the world is percolating right now in a bad way. There is a lot of tension in several different places.

China / India
Aremena / Azerhoweveryouspellit
Turkey / Greece
China / Taiwan
Urkrain / Russia
Kyrgyzstan / Tajikistan
Georgia / Osetia? I read a report today talking about Georgia making some moves with it's military.
Syria
Yemen
Iran / Israel
I'm probably forgetting some
