What is the things to do besides the downtown area? Is there lakes or rivers close? How easy is it to get to football games, baseball games, hockey games, etc?
I like that it is a small town as that is what I am used to.

Are you an educator?
And what do you mean by "football games, baseball games"...do you mean UT? Hockey is gonna be a haul for you, as they play in Cedar Park.

Do you have Google maps?

UT, Texas St, Round Rock Express, Toros, etc
I use google maps but usually locals have the better spots where to go

Bastrop state park is a good hike. I’ve done 3 or 4 different trail runs out there and always enjoyed it.
Their downtown has a few fun restaurants/bars. I’ve never been on lake Bastrop to know if it’s good for fishing/water sports.
As far as travel in to Austin (assuming you took the Del Valle job) on 71 won’t be too bad. They tolled up 71 on the inside but I usually am coming from the toll loop anyways and haven’t taken it any more west that ABIA.
ETA: You’d be close to downtown but not much else. 45 toll will get you to Round Rock for expres games fairly easily. COTA is close if that’s your thing.

Mostly. Couple decent bars/restraunts in town. Bastrop state park is cool. Otherwise...not much going on.

Watch Texas get its ask kicked around the SEC, then rub it in everyone’s face!

There’s an area by the river that you can park and play around in the water or along the banks. Other than that I couldn’t tell you much else.

I experienced that last time I was down there was not fun at all. I did take the Del Valle thing. Did not want to live in Austin, priced out actually. I know never live in district you work. Bastrop seemed to be the compromise. Plus when mama MJ comes down next May I will have a better handle on housing, whether to build or buy.

While getting shot at is certainly on the list of things to do in Bastrop, LA, they do have Simmons and Wal Mart which Bastrop, TX does not have. There is a Bucee's close though. '
Plus, they are pronounced different.
