You can go to the Pecanland Mall in Monroe. The Dillards there still sells Girbaud jeans.

Really? Do they still have the big deep pockets? That was the best thing about Girbauds.

there is a great hamburger joint a couple miles north out of town

SE of town on HWY 21 is better..

Maxine Cafe for breakfast
Grace Millers for lunch
and get out of town by dark; seems to have nothing good happening. Schools suck. 15yr ago Bastrop was nothing but ATX is putting it on the map simply because people can actually afford it.

It's trying for a Hollywood South vibe and are filming a big shoot in the next town over right now.

It's not TX anymore and not hipster enough for Austin. Its defined by a Bucees lol

What are you looking for? It's a small Texas town with big city thing 30-45min away.

There are a few places to eat, but generally speaking it's not really a destination spot, more of a good place to live.

I'm looking at property between bastrop and elgin, but I'm not looking for "things to do". I'm looking to have a small farm and raise a family.

Not cool man, I know several people who lost everything in those fires. Not something to joke about.

Bastrop is close to some of the best BBQ spots in central Texas if that's your thing.

Not much to do there at all. If you want a small town rural vibe it will do the trick, but that's it. Used to live there until 2010 and it got old fast having to go into Austin for everything. It's grown since then for sure, but still. It can be okay if you are a stay at home type person I guess. If you can't afford Austin, I'd much rather move to other surrounding areas. Also, commute into Austin wasn't bad back then because no lights really on 71, but they have them now so you can get traffic buildup.

ETA - I assume you were asking about moving. Weekend get away can be nice.

The good news is the apartment complexes have full sprinkler systems for the people who have lost everything

Big hunting area

Yes rivers and lake bastrop. I personally hate camping

The bastrop theatre is always doing shows, small budget local theatre but it can be fun

Places out there do drive thru tours of the high fences which could be neat with kids or elderly.

Walmart.

Walmart built a store in Bastrop, La. It's huge. Someone mistakenly used the plans meant for Bastrop, Tx to build it. Wasn't supposed to be that large. So go to Walmart, and look around.

See if there’s a school around there and grab yourself an education.

What is the things to do besides the downtown area?

My parents lived there for about 15 years. The Colorado River goes right through it. There is a large State Park, Lost Pines, that has cabins and such. As well as a lake...Lake Bastrop I think. Not sure how nice it is after the fire, though. There is also McKinney Roughs and the Hyatt Resort which has horseback riding.

There is a Dinasour Park, the kids had fun there a couple times. Not that great, really. A small zoo thats ok.

It was nice place to live. Wish my old man didn't move. Convenient to the airport and the F1 track as well.
