Do those things not get flats often? Clipping those curbs that often would make me nervous.
I doubt this is getting a flat from a street curb

They have run flat tires anyways so you can drive to a safe location if they do go flat

What a dump of a place.
Pretty much most of the Middle East. It’s why I laugh when people talk about how bad the “poor” here have it. We haven’t had true poverty in this country in decades.

That's very accurate.
I had Bradleys. People got the frick out the way.

Let me know whenever you’ve had to drive in traffic and worry about 360 degrees of coverage with your head on swivel and be aware of an ambush you dumb arse!
I think y’all missed the larger point. They wouldn’t have to drive like that if we weren’t over there bringing war to those people.
And if you can’t empathize with the locals who are driving around their own towns getting pushed out of the road by foreigners, then I don’t know what to tell you.

That transmission sounds horrible

And people wonder why people in other countries hate Americans. Could you imagine some douche from another country doing that here? All for access to some natural resources and occupying an area that hasn't been occupiable in the history or man. If this is the only exposure they get to "real" Americans it is no wonder why people hate America.
Yep.

Depended on where you were at…Iraqis were used to being treated like crap by prior regime forces. There was no good options if you couldn’t avoid transiting a heavy traffic area from 2003-2008 in Iraq due to IEDs and VBIEDs. It was a shite sandwich that did us no favors and only helped the haters recruit against us infidels as occupiers. Such are the grays of war.
Much preferred the “wild west” of the Stan where my soldiers got to fight real warriors vs the low life’s hiding behind civilians.

What would happen if that kid running across the road was hit? Would the Humvee stop and scoop kid up to bring for care, or keep rolling and call it into local authorities?

I wonder if this is common courtesy over there. In India, it's a friendly courtesy to honk at each other to let them know you are nearby, unlike in the states where it's used out of anger and frustration. Wondering if these taps are the same with bumpers. They may be called bumpers for a reason.
Same thing I encountered in South America. Driver had one hand on the wheel and the other hand on the horn.

The fricking traffic circle on route Irish was just a fricking circus game. Can’t remember one time driving through that shite without getting contact and IED. Good times ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Not really. But we live in a representative democracy. Up until that point, they had lived in a repressive dictatorship their entire lives. You think this was even on the radar of the bad things they experienced?

This is a video of an attack in Bagdad (2003/2004 ish) on a civilian convoy. Looks like an armored HMMWV up front, but it's followed by basic consumer grade SUVs (Suburban/Land Cruiser/etc) that probably don't have much, if any protection for the occupants during an attack.
There's stupid music on the video so turn your speakers down, but at 0:11 seconds, there is what almost looks like an IED going off about 6' from the passenger side of that civilian SUV. Youtube
I would freak out if I was in a convoy like that.

Depends on the setting and mission. Stopping is never a good idea under any circumstance. I would stop if there was significant comfort that one of my men or I wouldn’t be shot. Outside of that, just keep rolling.
ETA: LOL at “local authorities”

Right after the initial OIF 1 wave we replaced the Marines on the east side of Baghdad. There was no power among other things and the roads were parking lots at every major juncture. We would have to jump out and direct traffic with our rifles to clear paths.
This was before IED’s and VBIED’s became a major enemy tactic

Yeah, normally not stopping. The family of the individual would show up at the camp the next day or two and we would normally have to come to a financial agreement.
I forget what tank unit it was but after we (2/2ACR) took a major ambush in Sadr City and people were going nuts. We got something like a platoon of tanks to reinforce our AO.
It was impossible for them to maneuver and one of them crushed a car with a local chief in it. Most money we shelled out for a wrongful death

I wish we had those when I deployed...
I was in Sadr City for a year, 03-04, and we had soft sides. Most of the time we took the tarps off the back and the doors off the cab so we could see better.

Sounds like I need to get a new bigger vehicle. That's one way to get drivers out of the left lane.
