You're not alone. Even if LSU was doing good I would feel the same way about the state of the sport.

I don’t have a ton of examples for you, but good disciplined coaching can turn a program around faster then a few incoming 5* recruits. I’m not saying we will be in the playoffs next year but the turn around won’t take as long as you think.

It’s always been a pro league. The players just haven’t been getting compensated.

Your stance is one of pure selfishness. And that’s fine & ok, as long as you acknowledge it

Myself. I used to need college football injected into my veins and I still bleed purple and gold, but you're right it's just not the same. Gone are the days of anticipation (i.e. having to wait for the Tiger Rag season preview guide, then depending solely on newspaper and evening news for any updates), having to listen to the radio broadcasts due to games not being televised, and looking at a star player thinking "thank goodness we'll have him for another three years". Now, it's immediate gratification, NIL deals and transfer portals, and entitlement. ALL of the things I hated about the NFL is now rearing it's ugly head in college football. Pure passion and love for your school is now "where can I get the best deal".

You’re not.

In the last few years I’ve completely quit watching the NBA, and in the last 2 years or so I’m barely watching MLB.

I’ll still watch the Saints games, but aside from them, don’t really watch the other NFL games.

LSU football and baseball are the 2 things I really keep up with, but it’s been very difficult to stay ‘passionate’ about college football these last 2 years.

Sorry but no matter what people say, you know if we were winning the last couple of yours you would feel different.

All this just happened to converge with us going 11-12.

With that, I am not opposed to paying ALL athletes. I’m not opposed to athletes transferring. What I’m opposed to is allowing more class separation between public institutions. The transfer portal needs rules. The conferences are not good enough to regulate themselves.

There needs to be salary cap or deferred compensation that is tied to earning a degree.

I want the track athletes to get the same money as football, basketball and baseball players. I want it to be equal for men and women sports.

Don’t tell me a football player works harder on their craft than a track athlete or a tennis player. Go play a fricking round of golf and get back to me on the skill level required to be a scratch golfer.

There are no controls and universities are going to choose one athlete over another and that is NOT RIGHT.

I’ll happily continue to donate to helping kids no matter what. I’ll just direct all of it to the college of engineering.

I think that's your choice though. You can choose to be open to what CFB will be in the coming years, or you can fold your arms and say it's ruined.

Very well said and exactly how I feel as an LSU Alumni. Love the ole’ War Skule! Will always be a Tiger…… but they have killed it. I have friends who are UGA and Clemson fans who feel exactly the same way. So it doesn’t seem to matter if your team is in the big game or not. Most Bama fans are too dumb to know what is really happening.

NIL isn’t even a big deal it’s the god awful transfer rules that are ruining college football

The average player isn’t making even close to pro money. Under your contract scenario, the best players would leverage their ranking into a 1 year contract to keep their options open. Unless coaches are held to the same standard, I have no problem with the transferring. College athletes are free Americans with rights just like you. They can’t be held hostage at a program because you want a team full of 5th year seniors.

Actually it is a two way contract. Scholarships are yearly and a university can not renew it if they choose.

Sorry. You are correct in that. My bad.

Not if the athlete is injured as I understand it.

I really wanted to say after 2019 that was it. Imagine saying im done with college football after the LSU 2019 season? I mean there was no where's else to go but down from there but ED O said no worries you want down i can get you there real quick Yeah I'm getting to old to live by 17 -21 year olds making or breaking a season. This will become the teams with the most money to spend it looks like.

I agree but my love affair isn’t dying as much as yours. Change becomes something people naturally resist as you get older. NIL and the (immediate) transfer portal are two of the biggest changes the game has ever seen because they are impactful from day 1. I still think there will be some sorting out and agreements between schools but right now it’s the wild west and we just have to weather the storm.

I agree, NIL will be a problem. In the NFL it is against the league policy to collude with athletes under contract and it will cost draft picks and heavy fines if you do. In the College now it is the wild west. The NCAA, because they lost in court has seemed to step away from their oversite and management responsibility, which has allowed each state to govern themselves regarding NIL. Booster's now will contact the best players and offer lucrative deals to enter the portal and go to a specific team. Playing time, number of throws or runs, and money will all become negotiable (just like the NFL). Texas A&M thinks they are winning now, but they will quickly realize, in an open market, they will struggle to keep all these athletes happy with other teams boosters offering their best players.

Hard to disagree with what you posted. I still watch but I no longer do the Friday tailgate and big bbq for Saturday games. I watch but really don’t let it run my life.
