My 52 year love affair with college football is dying.

I have never been a pro football enthusiast, even though I want the Saints to play well and represent Louisiana well.
MLB was once a passion of mine also, but much less so now.
NBA....please...no.
But college football....that is my sweet spot. The passion, the rivalries, the playing of a sport for the sheer joy and pride of the school you represent.
It's all gone.
And it ain't ever returning. Call me whatever name you like and downvote your asses off, I could not care less.
College football is ruined. And there is no unringing this bell.
I haven't abandoned my fan-dom totally, but the avid-ness with which I followed recruiting is fading quickly.
I want so much to see LSU back in the national conversation as a perennial Top 10 team...but the Texas Bowl shows just how far that climb really is...and it's gonna take time. And time, often, means painful losses. Maybe BKelly can restore Tiger Pride quickly. Maybe it will take several years. Time will tell. But for $95 million reasons, I want him to succeed in the worst way. That, and my hatred/envy of Bama.

But this NIL crap is the end of college football as we all know it. And it ain't good. Honestly, it ain't good for the athletes, either. It further ingrains the entitlement mentality that these kids are raised in, and coddled with, from middle school.

I bleed purple and gold. I am an alumnus. I am on the faculty of the LSU-HSC system. I am fully invested. I was a season ticket holder for 23 years. I just care much less these days about college football than I ever thought I would.

I cannot be alone in my feelings.

I am just glad we won the last official real college football season title in 2019. Now it will officially known as the who pays the highest NIL college football sweepstakes. I love LSU but my passion is also running at an all time low.

I don’t see how NIL can continue. It will ruin college football.

If you’re adjusting your level of fandom based on anything involving the Texas Bowl then don’t even try to convince me you’re some big fan of LSU. People should be proud we didn’t cower down like A&M did when we probably had less players available. It’s people like you that don’t deserve to celebrate the next time LSU is on top. Celebrate these kids at their highest moment and lowest. And as far as NIL, let me remind you this isn’t about YOU and your feelings. These kids gotta do what’s best for them and their families.

College athletes have better free agency than pro athletes do.

2019 not withstanding, my passion for college football has been waning for a while now.

I very rarely watch a game that doesn't involve LSU.

But the last few years of the Miles tenure, and most of the Orgeron tenure, the fun has been sapped. The team just wasn't entertaining and wins were more relieving than celebratory.

Now you factor in the macro issues that will further reduce the emotional tie between the team and the fans because playerswill be reduced to no more than random interlopers at best and mercenaries at worst.

I think we've seen the best days of college football. They are not on the horizon.

Once they start winning those feelings will change. Winning is the cure all

Winning is the cure all, is semi-correct. For me, I would like to see these young men HONOR A COMMITMENT...not fly every time someone offers them $5 more.

Changes have to come. None of the recent changes, alone, are all that bad. It's the combo. There really has to be some kind of penalty for leaving, both in eligibility and compensation.

Assuming you're 52, then I'm in the same boat as you with everything that you said.

Tier 1 CFB will look like the NFL from the 80's. Big programs with big money will pool all the talent. LSU will compete but, for me, winning isn't everything. CFB will look like the NFL before the salary cap.

I'll watch my Tigers play and be happy when they win but it won't be the same. Mainly because I'll know we bought some kid for a year and he'll go to the highest bidder the next. Then I'll feel the same about him that I felt about Bobby Hebert and Morten Anderson back in the 90's. Traitors.

I went to 3 LSU games this year, 2 SLU games and 3 Ponchatoula High games. The SLU (mainly against Nicols) and the Ponchatoula games were incredibly electric and enjoyable. That is likely where I'll be on my Friday and Saturday nights from now on. Unless something changes.

One way contracts that bind the employer (university) but not the athlete, unrestricted free agency, no salary cap.

The professional athlete unions' wet dream.

Take solace in the fact we will always have 2019. No college team is ever beating that season imo. And it was the last real season which makes it that much more special.

I wonder if Florida State fans say the same thing about winning the last BCS title in 2013.
