a)it's called "script"
b)lots of schools still teach it
3)it's radically superior to print

I can confirm they don’t teach it anymore.
It's taught at my daughter's middle school.

Is cursive necessary really?
Older folks get weirdly pissed off at things that don't really matter. It was wild when you think about it that when I was a kid I would get points taken off for penmanship.
Same with math. Sure I am sure some of the new stuff is BS but hell when I was a kid we were mostly taught things off of memory. Its not a bad thing for kids to learn they why and how to figure shite out in a different way.

Cursive is dead. There is absolute no need to teach it.

The new math process is shite. I understand conceptualizing ideas but kids aren’t memorizing basic addition/subtraction equations or multiplication/division tables and, as a result, everything else they do takes twice as long.

There is a lot of stuff that probably does not need to be taught in school, and a few things that should be taught or put more emphasis on.
Last week my daughter in the 10th grade needed help with complex numbers. If you unaware that deals with imaginary numbers so you can solve problems like the square root of a negative number. Epic waste of time!
We prepare every kid in high school to be a rocket scientist knowing it will only be an extreme few that need that type of knowledge and they are smart enough to pickup that knowledge when they need it.
We could take that time teach more everyday skills or knowledge to the vast majority of people. Teach kids how to live healthy through nutrition and exercise. Teach personal finances and retirement planning. Put greater emphasis on Civics and Economics since everyone can vote and we all have to live with the consequences, at least make them educated voters.

Why would they? It was always a waste of time.

Complex Variables was one of the hardest classes I took at LSU…and like Condensed Matter physics, I had to drop it. It was all proofs and homework was 90% of your grade. I wish I’d had been exposed to it before, but my HS was shite.
Ive worked at rocket launch or test facilities for 20 years…no one is doing math like that.
Mathcad Prime is your friend, get her a copy and it will change her life. I would have been unstoppable in college with that one program.

They’ve replaced it with thumb typing. Also replaced debate and speech class with FaceTiming. Sex education has been replaced with a course on Pornhub searching for beginners. Civics and history have been replaced with…….never mind, don’t want to get banned or canceled.

I learned a second language and didn’t write it in cursive. So I don’t really believe this non sense.

Umm no. You think LeBron Janes can even read?

I think cursive is good for kids as it’s a good challenge for their mind. Expanding and challenging young minds in engaging ways is more important than making sure kids learn specific topics.
There isn’t really a need for it from what I know though.

In the 1st grade we learned addition/subtraction on Abacus. In the 3rd grade Miss Hickory Knot taught how to write in cursive, from that point on everything we wrote had to be in cursive and we were graded on it.
In the 5th grade Miss Stiff Oak taught us long division ,by hand, no calculators allowed. We also had spelling tests every Friday, in cursive of course.

My brother ha a medium size business and hires high school kids for part time work, from the stories he tells me we need to scrap the entire curriculum used today and go back to what they were doing in 1955. His number one complaint, there handwriting is un-readable, believe I are not there are still countless situations where it is necessary to communicate without a phone or computer.
