Would think it would be a great place to get exposure. Top facilities ,chance at playoff yearly, top Athletes , great pay etc... Why wouldnt a top OC /DC want to jump on this opportunity? especially when they are working at a place that doesn't have any of these things? Maybe my P&G glasses are on but we seem to go thru this every time we are looking. Aranda seems to be the last Guy that came in with some hype and that has been a while.

When you have bat shite fans that fire a less than two full seasons after he won a national title, players and coaches are going to be wary of coming.

Some will take this as a troll but it’s not

Well last year everyone saw the writing on the wall with O and this year we've only missed on one DC candidate unless I'm missing something.

Quit being a nega-Tiger and trust Brian Kelly.

the problem with wanting the "top OC or DC" is that its typically a guy that's already on a clear path to a good HC gig, so even if LSU offers more money and is considered a better job or program, its still a risk for that coach and he has to uproot his family for what's probably a 1-2 year stay until he gets the head job he wants.

its not as simple as some make it out to be.

Well, part of it was Orgeron. Each hire he made was more and more risky for the incoming coach, as he was relying on his coordinators, so their success was tied to his.

Aranda, Canada and Pelini were big hires. When Canada and Pelini didn’t work out, it hurt his ability to get someone as good the next time. That’s ultimately why he was fired, he ran out of chances to do the thing he sold the admin on (hiring the best coordinators)

I can only assume they can’t take the heat. And they don’t want to battle Saban every year. We always hear coaches would line up to be here. Well where are they? It’s strange

Or maybe it’s the traffic

I am starting to think that maybe Kelly thought focusing on the recruiting part was more important than getting the coordinators in place.

He hired Wilson and Polian who are top notch recruiters and then confirmed Brad Davis would remain on staff as the position coach of probably the biggest need on the roster. The rest of the staff are in their evaluation period and are still recruiting for LSU in the hopes they may be retained. That part did have a negative effect on some. See the Joseph and Raymond departures.

If you are good at communicating your vision then you don’t necessarily need to have the coordinators in place. You just let the recruits know what type of scheme and person you are wanting.

It’s hard for anyone. Top level people tend to get a lot of offers and attention and their current employer tries hard to hold on to them.

Today is signing day. Coordinators and assistants will be playing musical chairs very soon.

Plus, LSU has been pushing for the best of the best - Freeman, Elkins, White - when you swing big like this it's pretty common to miss on a few.

LSU has had like 1 bad DC in 20 years.

OC has been an issue due to the hiring manager.

Grabbing great, established coaches is more of a timing thing than anything else.

Early signing day throws a wrench into this. Because coaches are being fired earlier, but a lot of assistant coach candidates are either still grinding in recruiting or bowl prep, or are in the NFL.

Kelly said himself when intro’d as LSU’s coach that his priority was reaching out to the current LSU commits and establishing a relationship with them.

I imagine with ESD today, he’ll switch gears a bit and we’ll have the coaching staff completed shortly.

He’s done this before at Cincinnati and ND — people need to give him more than 2 weeks and quit expecting him to wave a magic wand and fix everything in a second.
