Climate crisis: Golf courses on borrowed time as Earth's weather patterns become more wild

The 30 or so golf courses in the Salt Lake County of Utah drink up around nine million gallons of water a day to stay pristine green -- that's more than 13 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Managing the turf on golf courses also means using carbon-intensive fertilizers, plenty of mowing and, in many cases, clearing forests or trees that were soaking up carbon-dioxide to make way for long tracts of fairway.

In other words, golf is a dirty sport that's wrecking the planet. But it doesn't have to be.

The impact of golf on the climate and environment has led to growing calls to make the sport more sustainable -- even to play on bone-dry courses, as golfing legend Tiger Woods has enjoyed.

And it's not just to save the planet, but to save the sport itself, as the climate crisis threatens to transform many courses into muddy swamps.

The treadmill from "global warming" to "climate change" to "climate crisis" to "climate emergency" is amusing. I guess next it will be "climate apocalypse"? Not sure where we go from here.

It's interesting that they never talks about the impact of people having lawns and swimming pools in Southern California.

Not surprised they decided to go after one of the most popular recreational sports people enjoy.

Fishing will probably be next if they haven’t tried that already

Calif courses have been in trouble for years due to high water prices. It's not caused by weather patterns. It's environmentalists allowing water to flow into the ocean because reservoirs disturb species.

Wouldn't the fraud and trees on golf courses reduce CO2?

These people are flat out nutjobs.

The state of Utah uses 4,600,000,000 gallons of water per day.

Salt Lake City MSA accounts for 40% of the population of the state.

Just for scale.

Farming cuts grass, uses fertilizer, cuts down trees to make fields to grow food. Let's end food production!

Liberals live in water starved areas of West Coast. Let's get rid of them while we are at it.

SHUT'EM DOWN!!
Hell, it would save me about $10,000 a year (not counting lost scramble wagers!), over 400 hours/40 days a year of time spent blowing my blood pressure and anxiety level sky high, and my liver(19th hole!) another 10 years of functionality!
Go ahead and do it!!..I dare'ya!

Putting golf courses in an arid region is *not* an indicator of “climate crisis”. It’s indication of putting a large water user in the middle of a water-constrained location

It’s also not a random selected sample. So… being short on water in Utah != bro. short everywhere. Silly to try to make the at connections but hey! It makes good agitprop for the gullible.

Wouldn’t that imply that there is excess water?

Either way, this article is retarded.
