45 years of not talking to your dad?
Some guys get all the breaks.

Its a weird feeling. I wasnt that close to my dad, but when he passed away all the times I missed with him became so important.

I know you're trying to be edgy, and I do appreciate this may not be the best avenue for OP to explore his grief over past traumatic events, but if this truly was the first thing that hit your brain get some help. This is world class a-hole behavior.
Some people have productive hobbies, some people are just dicks.

RIP in peace.
My dad died last year. He used to call me every afternoon around 4. If my phone rings around that time I automatically think, "there's dad," until I realize it isn't going to be him.

45 years is a lifetime, and I bet there are days where it hurts just as much as it on day 1.
Buddy of mine lost his son to cancer last year and he has said that everybody tells him time heals everything, but the more time passes the more he misses his boy and it just makes his grief harder. That always stuck with me.

Makes me thankful to still have my dad around. Not looking forward to the day it does happen, assuming I don't pass before him.
Sorry OP.

When he didn't come home on time, we already knew it was bad.

My grandmother's sister and her husband lost a child in infancy. I went with them to the cemetery one time. They were in their eighties and talked about it like it was yesterday.

I know people who have lost a child. I don't know how I could muster the energy to go on.

Were you a child when he passed?
I was 16. The last thing he did was give me money for school, and watched my brother and sister get in the Eldorado before we left.

Losing my dad was the worst day of my life so far.
Hang in there brother. Im sure he would be proud of you. I am going on 6 years and it feels like yesterday sometimes.

Wrong. Time heals nothing. In my experience you never “get over” losing someone close to you, but you eventually get better at dealing with it.

Time heals your DWI convictions.

Time does heal divorces and such but not the death of a loved one, especially one lost way too soon.
