I was devastated to lose my husband. Not long after he died, I played a voice memo that I thought was something else, and turned out to be him softly snoring. He swore he did not snore (it wasn’t loud or obnoxious) and I had recorded it to prove he did! You can imagine how that caught me by surprise and cut deep. In fact, I am crying now just thinking about it, and missing him. Four years.

My dad passed in January this year. My mom has Alzheimer’s and can’t take care of herself. First Thanksgiving and Christmas without both of them in my house. I take comfort knowing that one day I will get to see my dad again. Prayers for everyone who is having a hard time during the holidays.

Heart going out to you. Keep your Mom there with you.
I know it's hard, I'm dealing with that too.

I’m on year 41. Lost him when I was 7. It sucks.

I saved all his voicemails from the time I found out he was sick and I haven’t been able to listen to them except for the other day where I accidentally played one. I cried like I did the day he died.

I have all the voice mails from Mom. She left this world this past August I don't know when I'll be able to listen to them. I know exactly where you're coming from with this.

I decided to watch some old Beta and VHS tapes from back in the 1980s and early 90s last week. Saw a few scenes with Dad and heard his voice a lot more than seeing him since he was generally the one recording. On the 19th of this month it'll be thirty years since he was called from this world. It still got me deep in the feels.

So many of us here on the message boards were blessed with absolutely wonderful and loving parents. It makes us miss them all the more when they are no longer just a phone call away.

It is a somewhat trite thing to volunteer to someone but there is truth in it. Healing takes time but it takes other things as well and those are different for everyone. And scars happen even with healing. Oftentimes those scars still hurt even years later.

Also, there is no shame in seeking professional help, when dealing with tragic losses.
