Autonomous air taxis could perhaps help change public perception about the need for pilots to fly an aircraft

Eh. USAF already does this all over the world with their drones. Missions in Afghanistan are flown by pilot and co-pilot in Arizona. So long as it’s the same tech, I can talk to the pilot real time, and there’s an override button ; I’m game.

ETA
In terms of reducing cost, I don’t think you’ll see much movement, the cost in chartering a plane is pretty much 100% the plane, the pilot cost is pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things.

Putting hours on a turbine engine = $$$$$$$$$$

Maybe if we had some T-800s more people would behave their wild asses on a plane.

Im curious how the majority of people are going to have jobs/make money in 100+ years as AI slowly takes over jobs. And Im not talking about fast food AI bots.

I'm no pilot, but isn't part of why flying is so much safer is because there's so much less chance of being in the vicinity of something to collide with? I would think self flying would be an easier problem to solve than self driving.

I’ve always been somewhat comforted knowing the pilot’s arse is also on line if something goes wrong. I know I’m going to get maximum effort.

Nah…frick that.

60-80% of airplane crashes are at least in some way attributed to pilot error. PDF Source

The inventors and subscribers to AI in everything will have to wall themselves off from the plebs because there will be revolution everywhere. People want to make a living.

When a pilot is suicidal, this strategy can backfire.

Pilots are not allowed to be alone in the cockpit any longer to prevent this.
