considering we havent gotten self driving cars right yet i doubt we see this anytime soon.

News alert: we have self driving cars and Waymo (owned by Google) has mastered them. They currently operate several fleets in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix (largest operational fleet).

As to planes, it’s coming. Having human backup pilots on board will probably be phase 1.

Eh. USAF already does this all over the world with their drones.

AI doesn't fly those Brainiac. Those are remotely flown by humans.

self driving still frick up frequently. their detection systems are bonkers sometimes, and they are fairly stupid in general. usually it doesnt cause too much of a problem other than a chuckle.

guess what happens when a planes detection system goes a little bonkers.

Or maybe a plane is full of people who go against the party...or maybe a higher up that needs to be dealt with...

Unless we develop the tech from Transmetropolitan, the AIs won’t be out getting smashed while waiting for their next hop.

I don’t fly anyway. But now I’m positive I’m not flying anyway.

I'm about to go hop on a plane now. Hopefully the pilot didn't have as many vodka sodas in the lounge as me

Im curious how the majority of people are going to have jobs/make money in 100+ years as AI slowly takes over jobs. And Im not talking about fast food AI bots.

Best case: No scarcity, everyone's needs are met and they are free to engage in a life of leisure and creativity. Make painting landscapes or learning the mandolin your life's work, whatever you desire.

Worst case: Soylent Green

Unions and a slow moving regulatory system will keep this from happening for at least a generation. It’s not a matter of technology.

computers are great monitors, not so great decision makers, drones are flown by pilots, and yes, the military does it every day, but the only reason it will eventually get approval is when the gen whatevers are in control and think that putting a computer in charge is the best way because that’s their upbringing

It is happening, just probably not for 40-50 years. It will also move towards a 1 pilot cockpit first.

The fight to remove the flight engineers was a colossal fight. I imagine this change will be even tougher. I’d hate to be writing the regs on that.
