Just shorten it to Doc and everyone is happy. It's a respect thing and I have no problem with calling him/her as Doc.

The only time Scruffy expects anyone to call him doctor is when he is with patients, a courtesy that he performs for all other physicians, including trainees. You really shouldn’t call someone by their first name in front of a patient. It shows a level of respect and professionalism.

That should be done.

Otherwise, most people outside the hospital who meet me don’t even know.
