NEW: The US believes Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to invade Ukraine, and has communicated that decision to the Russian military, three Western and defense officials tell me.
The US expects the invasion to begin next week, six US and Western officials tell me, as Secretary of State Antony @SecBlinken said last night.

US officials anticipate a horrific, bloody campaign that begins with two days or aerial bombardment and electronic warfare, followed by an invasion, with the possible goal of regime change.

I always figured the Russian military could reach Kiev pretty quickly.
And I'd imagine they would wait until after the Olympics.

I’m not saying it’s happening. In fact, I have serious doubts. But if it is going to happen, he won’t wait much longer. Right now the ground is frozen, thus making movement of ground forces easy. But in a few weeks the spring thaw will come, making huge swaths of land virtually impassible, especially for follow-on logistics trains that have to keep up with the mechanized front line units.
Once the Spring thaw (Russians call it Rasputitsa) arrives, an invasion will be far more difficult. And it won’t be until late June or early July before the land will dry out enough to make an offensive feasible.
