The biggest way you can tell that a coach is not long for a program is when the media turns on a coach. You can say that interactions between a coach and media members don’t matter, but those are the folks that are around and see the coach for who he really is. And when they change their tone toward a coach, it usually means that a change is on the horizon.

That’s why the soundbite that we heard on Monday, when a media member was heard saying “I’ll be here longer than Billy Napier, I can guarantee that”, is a likely indicator that Napier won’t be at Florida long-term.

Do they not know that he once coached under Saban?

FLoorida pulled the trigger on firing Mullen too quick

Not sure on that but it has to do with me never being that high on Mullen

They really messes up firing Mullen and replacing him with someone like Napier Maybe if they were bringing Urban back or getting Lincoln Riley or Brian Kelly, sure fire Mullen.

Completely agree on this

Florida is a premium job. Best program in the best conference in the best recruiting state in the country and has solid academics.

You don’t fire Dan Mullen less than a year from an SEC CG berth (which they almost won I might add) to hire sun belt bargain bin Billy.

They were talking about this on the local radio here the other day. I think people may be looking at this specific incident differently. The media member has been there through multiple coaching changes. For a media member they need to be able to act like they are there for a full career and will be around many coaching changes. If a media member kisses butt then they lose credibility with the listener and also the coach. I am sure he did not make any friends when saying that and it is something he should keep to himself. I do get the concept of the media member not being a part of the Florida staff. They are there to report on what is going on not sugar coat things.

Billy was a fraud, he increased his lure by fierce campaigning with saban sound bites and putting propaganda out there that he was turning down big jobs left and right. This worked on many of idiots within our fan base and media (Culotta got hooked by a used car salesman again). Luckily, this coaching search had an adult in charge to cut through the bullshite. He just didn't have the tried and true process he was selling people on from a few years in the Sun Belt. He could figure it out but currently he looks to be in over his head.

The florida team doesn't have much talent on it.

I am so very thankful LSU did not hire this guy.

I did my part to oppose him relentlessly. I wasn't sure if he was going to be a good coach or not, but I knew he would be a wildcard at best and I didn't want another coach O local bias effect after Napier had endeared himself with the local media while at UL-Lafayette.

Wrong

Miami is much better historically and had better boosters and recruiting base.

UCF has a better coach

And FSU is on the rise

Florida is on par with USF right now

I know LSU fans have some weird vested interest in Napier failing because some people wanted to hire him but are we really going to dick ride this self fellating journalist? The best way you can tell when a coach is on his way out is when the media starts being smarmy? Really? My dude you're not that important. You don't set the tone on when a coach is in trouble.

What was the buyout for Mullen? How much would be owed if Napier was fired this / next year? Would that be a factor?

Plot twist: It was Glenn Guilbeau who said it.
