Is it any less of a risk taking a guy with a background working as an assistant in bigger programs who has a plan to make a splash in recruiting? Ask UF fans how that’s working out for them right now. Pick your poison. They are ALL risks unless they have already proven themselves at a top P5 program.
Again, he’s worth a damn interview. The only way to know how he will handle making an upward move is to ask him. If he’s a guy who’s serious about moving up, then he will have a detailed plan on how that will work.

how do you know who is being targeted if things are done in closed doors and not in the public. Speculation comes from non insiders and the MSM who like to generate click bait. For years NS was rumored for the texas job along with a few others.

We are talking about Klieman, an actual person, not some composite sketch of a hundred other coaches.
There's no "they" in this situation.
And you are ignoring the many other coaches that have taken the small school path and worked their way up and done fantastic jobs, from Jim Tressel to Kalen DeBoer to Klieman to Lance Leipold.

Right. They are all a risk. You risk hiring a coordinator that has never run a program an been a manager. You risk hiring a small school guy that has never run a major program. You risk hiring a mid-level P5 guy that has not recruited at an elite level due to resources.
I think guys like Klieman and Leipold are less risky than the coordinator route, especially in the NIL era.
Jonathan Smith at Oregon State is similar and he just got hired at Michigan State. Will be interesting to see how he does.

In one game, Rashaun Woods had half the TDs that the Miles' era passing game would produce in a season at LSU
Miles's offenses at OSU literally set school records. In 2002 Fields was 2nd in the Big12 in passing yards/TDs and 14th best efficiency in all of the NCAA. The only reason he wasn't 1st was b/c Leach was Air Raiding it up with Kingsbury in 2002.
Fields had 31 TD passes in 2002. How many LSU QBs did that under Les?

In that same game they completed 19 passes and didn’t even top 300 yards. Of the 7 TDs 6 were from 22 or 21 personnel I formations, and we all know your thoughts on that.

It was over 20 years ago. That's not shocking. The Leach Air Raid was in its 3rd year in 2002, brother. The spread option wasn't even a full time offense yet in 2002.

Just so we’re clear you started out talking about scheme and now have changed the subject from that to stats.
Russell had 28 and the Flynn/RP combo had about the same. Not exactly a huge difference from Fields.

Klieman is an Iowa guy. If K-State loses him it will be to a top Big 10 job, not a middle of the road SEC team.
