Why in the hell isn't A&M targeting Klieman?

A&M is not a school that can just go get whoever without throwing them enough money to feed all of Alabama fatass fans for a week.
You get Klieman cheap as frick and he's a damn good coach. And would be first call if I was AD.

Doubt.
He needs a school on the level that won't require elite recruiting.
I can't remember the last time one of these "lunch pail" type coaches from a backwater succeeded at big boy football. These guys are very good at what they do, but that doesn't translate to title contention. There is ceiling to their teams.

The assumption of competence is not one anyone should make for the top levels of CFB decision making

Eh. He was at a little brother school that would upset big brother occasionally with lesser talent. The box you are building around Klieman is way to restrictive. Rhule at Baylor could have fit that mold also.

The divas/special rules guys don't work in those programs. But you need those guys to win titles.
It's just a completely different philosophy and skillset.

If you can coach you can coach. To me the biggest difference is can they handle all the outside noise and meddling that happens at bigger programs with higher expectations.

Didn't one of the Woods brothers have like 8 TDs in a game?
That ain't lunchpail football, brother.
You can come from smaller schools and not be lunch pail. From the same era, just look at Urban Meyer. Or Rich Rod. Innovative and aggressive coaches from smaller schools who can recruit aren't the same type of coaches as the "lunchpail" types.
Miles was seen as an aggressive offensive guy. Skip was wrong. He should have hired Petrino, who fit the same mold.
*ETA: Brian Kelly is also not a lunchpail guy who cut his teeth at lower levels implementing innovative offenses. Chip Kelly, too. Kalen DeBoer is one of those guys having success today.
