He showed his true colors after 2008, once Jimbos QBs were gone and Crowton implemented more of his offense.
I mean Miles hired Crowton in 2007. Hardly a ground n pound guy.

I won't go that far but I believe that he thought that he wanted to be aggressive. 2006 had some ultra conservative games that we should have won.
But after 2008 he was completely different and thought that he could just bully ball and play defense. That was not the same guy who coached at Oklahoma State

Joe Paterno won 400 games as a lunch pail coach, with like 5 undefeated seasons. He was never a great recruiter.

Agree. Texas offers excellent recruiting grounds and the assistant coaches are the keys to successful recruiting.

Other lunch pail guys include Tom Osborne, Frank Beamer, Vince Dooley, Gary Patterson, Dabo Sweeney, Mike Gundy, Kyle Whittingham, Pat Dye.

It’s easy to put a guy in a box because he’s in a situation where significantly better recruiting isn’t really possible today.
Great coaches adapt. Just because others who started at similar programs with major recruiting limitations haven’t tended to doesn’t mean he wouldn’t. He’s worth an interview. If he comes in with a plan for how he will adapt his coaching philosophy and staff to work higher-level recruits and NIL, then he may be worth taking a chance on. If he comes in talking about porting over his current staff and current philosophy with no indication of any flexibility, then you are probably right.

I agree and that's the issue is that these guys don't seem to be able to, which is why they haven't had success with big programs.
