re: Why do I have this feeling that we are going to seriously regret passing on Napier?

But if we hit Riley then nothing at all to be upset about.
Nothing except for railroading down the path of being soft.

What?
Look, I don't think Riley is a slam dunk, but if you guys get him you got the least risky option out there.

His offense is only limited because of his QB’s limitations.
Hope thats the case. I like the guy as a HC, he brings energy to his team and he has a plan to build a foundation n change a culture.
Exactly what UF needs right now

e’ll find out soon but this is a safe assumption

We’re playing the long game here
Napier will be the testing ground for us.
If he succeeds in Florida, we’ll snatch him up in 5-8 years

The melt if we hired a sunbelt coach would be biblical
Because that is exactly what an AD worries about.

Why don’t we just steal Jimbo then?
Oh wait
Saban?
Oh wait
Kirby?
Right
What the frick makes you think that in 5-8 years, after Napier has been successful in Gainesville, has moved his family there and raised them there, and was turned down by LSU, that he’d want to come back to Louisiana?
I don’t get the levels of delusion here.
“$100 MILLION DOLLARS THOUGH!”
Napier is the son of a high school coach. He wanted to be a high school coach.
Once he’s already a filthy rich guy at UF there’s not a single reason to come back to Louisiana. LSU fans need to get it through their fricking skulls that they can’t just poach anyone from anywhere at anytime. Money isn’t everything to these people. IF Woodward gets Riley it’ll be the biggest coup in terms of poaching in modern college football.

Since 2000, there have been 10 NC coaches. 4 have had previous P5 head coaching experience, 6 did not.
Now do just championships.
By my count, it is 12 from coaches coming from P5 head coach, and 9 coming from something different, but even then, a decent amount of these 9 were not from G5, they were assistants at P5 teams like Dabo or Jimbo.
Also, Dabo, Jimbo, and Gus are the only ones this past 13 years that weren't from P5 head coach and 2 of them came from (Dabo, Jimbo) did not come from G5.
So you have Gus as the only winner since Urban did it at Florida.

Billy Napier is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.

Alabama will snatch him up
ETA: Didn’t know this about Napier:

1. Billy Napier Billy Napier has led Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football to unprecedented success since he took over in 2018. His $2,000,000 is 67th overall in the FBS for head coach salaries, is the highest in the Sun Belt by over million, and the only seven-figure salary in the conference. His contract has a $3,000,000 buyout.

What’s so shocking about that?

Muschamp? Yeah, probably. There was trepidation about his lack of HC experience but the idea was he was a good fit.
Mullen? No. He was a safety pick from almost everyone's perspective.

Let’s see what Scott comes up with. As another poster referenced, Alleva scarred many of us for life.
