What coaches who were on the verge of being fired turned it around?

I know there have to be some, but it seems like once a coach is firmly on the hotseat, it's just a matter of it, not when.

Can you all think of some examples where a coach was inches from being fired but ended up flipping the script and being successful?

Usually it seems like they either flame out immediately like Miles, O, or they kind of plug along in mediocrity like Mack Brown before they get canned.

Orgeron, temporarily. Remember how hot his seat was after losing to Troy?

Miles' seat was starting to heat up after 2009.

O was likely fired in 2018 if Burrow didn't show up.

Dabo Swinney

Took over as the interim mid-season (2008) and was named the permanent HC at the end of the season. They made the ACC championship game the next season (2009), but then went 6-6 in 2010. Many weren't sold on him from the beginning (1st time HC from fired staff who had never been a coordinator). At the end of the 2009 season he got rid of his OC (a guy named Billy Napier) and hired Chad Morris. He then wins the ACC the next season. The rest is history

Tubberville was on the hot seat after the ‘03 season. Auburn AD was caught secretly interviewing Bobby Petrino. Very next season, Auburn went undefeated.

Frank Beamer was on the hot seat a couple of times. He nearly got fired after his first few years at VT. Then was on the hot seat again later in his tenure.

Both occasions VT made the right call to keep him. He immediately turned things around and the next few seasons were some of the best in their history.

Clem's son was very frustrated with Dabo before he finally broke out.

8-5, 7-6, 4-8 and it wasn't looking good for Ferentz in 2012

This is the best example of a guy everyone knew was on the way out.
