as they've said on the radio many times, the fact that Florida didn't talk to him at all when they had their opening has to tell you something. Mullen was the OC under Meyer before he left for State.

frick no. I would rather hire Orgeron than Mullen. I would re-hire Miles than hire Mullen. Is Jackie Sherril still alive? Doesn't matter--I would rather roll out his rotting corpse than hire Dan Mullen.

The blowback against Mullen on TD is odd. I am NOT saying he is anywhere near the top of LSU's list, but the guy has made MSU relevant and watchable for years while running what appears to be a clean program. Starkville is AWFUL and the program's overall desirability ranks near the bottom of the SEC, so that is a major accomplishment.

Mullen's name seems to surface for every available "big" job, yet he is still at MSU. That should tell you something. He's a good coach and has done a good job for them, but he's mostly feasted off of some pretty terrible scheduling and has struggled against the best of the SEC. Even his best year (2014) was largely an anomaly. Their OOC schedule that year was USM, UAB, S. Alabama and UT-Martin. Their East opponents were Vandy and UK. He was able to beat what turned out to be very overrated LSU and A&M teams. Auburn was really the only great win for them that season. He had a favorable slate and took advantage.

Solid, yet not 'spectacular' hire. He is the 7-8 yrs ago version of Herman. Former OC at Utah/UF with Meyer. He was the 'hot hire' at Miss St. Guy has developed qb's and his teams don't seem to quit...look back at our games... Only 44, with SEC W game and recruiting experience. Has done well with little - facilities, tradition/talent (competes in state vs OM), coaching staff. Put him in BR with our facilities, coaching staff, tradition/talent, etc...and we'll win.

No.....just because they were both OCs under Meyer doesn't mean they're similar coaches.

I'm not generally a huge fan of Matt Moscona's opinions (I listen to his show on the drive home), but I do agree with his point today:
You just spent multiple millions (10 mil, I think) to fire a coach with a national title, multiple conference titles, additional appearances in both the BCS and Conference Championship game, and a winning percentage of nearly 80% accumulated over more than a decade.
You don't do that, and then go hire Dan Mullen.

Herman has Mullen beat by a lot when it comes to recruiting. Herman could possibly be on a Saban type level in recruiting after a couple years at LSU. Mullens weakness may be in recruiting it seems to me and that is a very large part of what makes or breaks a college coach. Herman is recruiting lights out at Houston of all places.
