Was Miami "cruel" in firing Manny Diaz and hiring Mario Cristobal?

I wouldn't think it's ever an easy thing to replace a coach or another employee for that matter. It's part of the business now.

It’s just business.

Not to mention, these dudes are highly paid. Someone who is paying me millions a year and is about to have to buy me out a few million more can “cruelly” fire me as much as they want.

No. If Diaz performed, they wouldn’t have been in this situation. Cristobal is an objective upgrade for them, and in this day and age nothing should stop a program from upgrading.

That quite possibly was the most effed up hiring process I've ever even heard of. "Hey, we gave a guy a deadline to let us know if he's coming and if he doesn't, you're still our man. If he takes the job, you're fired. Good luck."

no but i dont want to hear from the national writers when someone like BK or Lincoln leave. These schools have no loyalty and coaches shouldnt either.

I don't think so

I eman, the leaking was wrong and should have never happened, but Miami really did it the right wauy

I really you'd want to have your new coach installed the moment you fire you coach. If you fire you coach you want to be sure you already have your guy

Had the leaks not happened, they would've honestly handled this perfectly

the media should be raking miami over the coals.

but they'd rather make up a story of brian kelly "faking" an accent

I wouldn’t say Cruel, but this definitely turns off any potential future candidates if Cristobal doesn’t work out. Diaz deserved it for how he handled temple, but Miami screwed themselves in the long term. Better hope their athletic department is serious about turning the program around

The word "cruel" has no relevance to coaching and thus has no place in the discussion...

Coaches are mercenary and CFB is a business.

It is neither cruel, or not cruel. It just is. What a coach does to a school one day, a school does to a coach the next.

And here's the kicker- they both get paid simultaneously.

I don’t know but it’s hilarious that they would rather keep Diaz than hire Kiffin.

That tells you all you need to know about how programs view Kiffin and Ole Miss this year. They know it was a one shot deal and it’s not going to look good going forward.

I'm assuming someone at some point told him behind the scenes what was happening.

No they are talking about the way Miami handled the situation. Firing him is one thing, what they did is completely a whole other sack of shite.

I disagree. These situations aren't remotely the same. It sucks that he left Temple 2 weeks after taking the job but I also don't think he would have taken the Temple job in the first place if he had known that Richt was going to step down. Nobody deserves to be publicly getting disrespected and treated like shite by your boss in the way Manny was. Dude was out on the road recruiting for Miami while Miami was openly trying to replace him. That's an incredibly shitty thing to do no matter how much money you make or how you feel about how he left his previous job.
