It's generally this way when a coach is fired. Posters show up everywhere with vague posts about some things off the field. They don't mention what happened, have no source, but act like they're guarding a secret that threatens national security.
Sumlin being drunk before games was the worst kept secret in College Station.
As an Aggie fan, Franchione is the only firing that I fully endorsed and didn’t have any heartache about.
Sumlin, Sherman, and Fisher at least had some top 10ish seasons with bowl wins.

The thing is, all this is going on, and being reported in the local and national media for months, and there is still no plan?
If Bjork is not fired, well, guess there's no plan for that either . . .

Ah, yes. Because Herman and Napier knocked it out of the park when they went to big programs lol
Was Herman really that bad?

So he didn't win enough games.

Elko isn't anywhere near like those two. He was well liked at Texas A&M and many were upset he left but that was the best part to let him get some HC experience and bring him back as the HC.

They Really Fired Jimbo with ZERO Plan

So big time college coaches in Tx are required to attend way more obligations and events than any other coaches in the other 49 states(on top of their million other responsibilities)because a bunch of high school coaches have inflated egos in the state of Texas. Seems like Jimbo was guaranteed 100 million and thought “This shite is fricking dumb.” And decided to just ride out the contract.
Sounds plausible. And those activities that involve being the face of the university were usually, in the past, understood to be part of the compensation package. That may not have been the case this time, IDK.
Another thing - I don't know if all states auction off Board of Regents spots the way the State of Texas does, but in Texas at least, the regents are often from the big donor class. So blowing off the administration too many times is like blowing off the Big Cigars who wrote the checks for the coach's salary in the first place. Coaches aren't entirely off on their own athetlics island. An above-it-all attitude will eventually wear thin if the coach isn't producing impresisve results on the field.
ETA: I'm sure coaches in other states schmooze the High School coaching establishment too, but this is the 2nd largest state in the country , with a significantly larger obsession w/ high school football than California.

Most of your issues have nothing to do with Jimbo.

Hell, we did the same thing with Gus.
Now we are trying to rebuild from the Idaho Potato Famine.
If they had gotten Freeze when they fired Gus, we would be in MUCH better shape right now.
I guess we have Allen Greene's dumb arse to thank for that shitshow.

Mike Elko. Decent to good coach. But do you really picture him hoisting the cfp trophy??
Just not in the cards for him. And not in the cards for TAM. As always, they will be middle of the road. It’s in their DNA.

Maybe I'm skewed bc of our own coaching search issues but seems like that's the case the vast majority of the time one of these programs fires a guy

Fisher article
If only a previous team had warned everyone that Jimbo was arrogant, unwilling to hold players accountable, disengaged with stakeholders, hated building relationships, and quick to blame others.

The Jimbo firing wasn’t part of a long in-depth process. There were SIGNIFICANT issues beyond his win/loss record. He had to go, regardless.
The more you type this out, the more you’ll believe it.

He collected his big bucks and checked out.
And the solution was to pay him the rest of his big bucks so he could permanently check out.
Elko is not a bad hire. Much better value than stoops. Maybe aTm will learn the lesson many schools need to learn - paying a coach $10M a year is no guarantee of anything, even running a clean program.
But that article isn’t very damning. He didn’t do podcasts or show up at the touchdown club. Big deal. He just was never that great of a coach. Players will continue to act like Rock stars if they are only there to get paid. Got to have some other reason to go there.

IOW, just like LSU after they fired (insert name of dismissed coach)?

I never defend Bjork as I despise him but he was put in a difficult situation if any of that is true. Probably what scared off some interesting prospects. Plus, most of the good prospects are playing for championships still.

Your last sentence is on point. Right now is a bad time to try to be making a big hire. I feel like Jumbo must have royally pissed some people off to be shite canned before end of the season.
