FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas officials have received their first proposal for a reworked contract from Coach Sam Pittman’s new agent, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has learned, and the asking price is steep. According to a source with knowledge of the proposal, Pittman’s agent Jimmy Sexton of Creative Artists Agency is asking for a seven-year deal worth $50 million plus, which would nearly double his current salary.

Under his current contract, Pittman’s salary is set to increase from its initial starting point of $3 million per year to $3.75 million. Pittman received raises of $250,000 each for wins No. 6, 7 and 8 this season.

Pittman recently confirmed he changed agents from Little Rock’s Judy Henry to the Memphis-based super agent Sexton

Good for Sam Pittman! He seems to be a very likable coach. That being said, I hope we go back to smacking them down every year.

This is why you never fall for the CEO with introductory low pay pitch. The exact same thing happened with Orgeron. As soon as they have success, they're going to demand market rate and screw up the entire philosophy of paying for coordinators

It can work in the long run if the CEO isn't a piece of shite and doesn't want to frick everything in sight

7 years seems like childs play compared to the 10 year mega contracts going out.

Arkansas can do much better for that kind of money. I'm sure they will pay it, but when the program turns mediocre Pittman will be out.

That a very reasonable and honestly a bargain in today's coaching market.

I think the CEO thing can work for them. Pittman isn't Orgeron, and he doesn't have Ponamsky. I am sure Pittman is actually interviewing his coaches and not taking suggestions from a message board.

He’s a good coach and they have plenty of money. This is a no brainer

Ed O won at LSU.

Pittman is winning at Arky.

Pay the man his money.

In the grand scheme of the P5 and SEC, his contract is quite reasonable for the number of wins and development he’s delivered.

If he keeps hitting them up yearly, then you have a point. With Sexton now his agent, that could happen.

Pittman inherited a program in the dumps. His first year he injected life and belief into the team and they beat expectations. Second year he did even better, taking Arkansas to a NYD bowl game. His recruiting classes are on the rise. He’s authentic and likeable. He’s here until he retires. He deserves at least as much as Napier, which I believe is $7.5M?

Arky should have no problem paying that much for a good coach.

He hired great assistants. If he loses then and doesn’t replace with just as good, he’s cooked.

Damn, sounds just like Ed O, doesn’t it?
