re: Sam Pittman requesting a 7 year, $50 mill deal from Arkansas

These salaries are insane when you compare them to the nfl salaries. Pretty soon I think we’ll see guys jumping to college from the nfl. To think Sam Pittman might make near Andy Reid money after one 8 win season is nuts. The salary is one thing, it’s the school guaranteeing the money that is head scratching. If there is little to no buyout, this isn’t a big deal. But Sexton is involved and I doubt that is the case.

At the end of the day, the only number that matters with these coaching contracts is the buyout amount.

Idk
You have to make good hires every time or it blows up.
Odom and Briles being out in the market was lucky and Pittman was smart grabbing them.
But at some point they’ll take other jobs.

Is that what really happened with O? I thought Pelini was very highly paid?
Posted on 12/12/21 at 9:59 am to notbilly
Nfl coaches have already started hitting up management about their contracts after the recent college developments. So it’s coming to the nfl.

What if he doesn’t get the deal? Is he out of there?
Posted on 12/12/21 at 10:03 am to siliconvalleytiger
O supporters sold him as a cheap option that would be easy to cut loose from if things went bad. The concept was to invest heavily on coordinators. After the mnc extension the idea of keeping O on the cheap went by the wayside.

You had to reward Orgeron for being the head coach of a title team. It’s not LSU’s fault he’s a low-character, low-drive guy who essentially quit immediately after winning the title.

Damn, sounds just like Ed O, doesn’t it?
That’s a fair point, but the counter to it is how people will be lining up to work for Pittman vs who was wanting to work for Orgeron.

Pay it. Load it down with incentives, but make it happen.

I do not think they are in for long term success with Pittman. That being said, he needs to paid for turning them around like he has.

Arkansas needs to pay the man. Good coach and great fit

I honestly don't watch much NFL. Does the salary cap apply to coaches?
Posted on 12/12/21 at 12:09 pm to 1999
Just once I’d like a team to not overreact and extend a coach. Teams do this over and over and over again.
Sign a coach. Coach does well early making it a great signing.
Team is gives coach a huge raise and massive buyout.
Coach regresses. Turned into bad singing
Just chill teams.

Arkansas can do much better for that kind of money. I'm sure they will pay it, but when the program turns mediocre Pittman will be out
Turns mediocre? Arkansas is 8-4 and should have lost to LSU. I didn’t realize that 8-4 for 1 year is the Promised Land even for Arkansas. Hilarious.
