Riley has not been competitive in playoffs

He just cant compete with the SEC with talent esp on the D side of the ball.
like someone said in another thread, why would he come here if OU is joining the SEC? I would love to have him here but I feel like OU would match what ever we would offer and we cant use the SEC card any longer.

Let's not pretend that Fickell or Aranda or Kiffen or Freeze or Franklin or a number of coaches on the supposed list wouldnt have made the playoffs multiple times at OU. OU plays a trash schedule, typically loses to a team they shouldnt during the season, and gets beat down in the playoffs.

he has a disadvantage in overall talent against those teams.
i believe he can recruit even better talent, especially defensively at LSU.

To be fair, he is in an extremely weak conference. Had Oklahoma been in the SEC all those years, they would not have even come close to sniffing the playoffs.

My only issue with him is, for whatever reason, his defenses have been horrible. This was supposed to be the year they were going to have a better than average defense, yet they continue to struggle. This could be contributed to a Big 12 mindset and/or lack of talent, but it is something he would need to address to be successful in the SEC.
Regardless, I would hire him in a heartbeat if we could.
