I mean, yeah. But, the list of teams that have been "competitive in the playoffs" ain't very long.

You know what Riley can also say? He's been a damned lot more competitive in the playoffs than the 100+ teams who have never been including pretty much every coach we have a realistic shot at landing.

How old is Riley again? Think he just turned 38 last month. What other coach had his success at that age?
You have to jump to the Pros and see Mike Tomlin getting it done that early.

You are correct. I don’t think we can get him, but you are correct.

Ed O is undefeated in the playoffs. Should we hire him?

They lost to UGA in 2 OT, I would say that’s competitive

Hey, that Ed Orgeron fella is undefeated in the playoffs; let's get him!

That's not making the point, you think you are making.

My only issue with him is, for whatever reason, his defenses have been horrible.

Grinch is overrated and they don't have anywhere near the talent LSU has on D. Based on the 247 composite OU has one 5 star on the whole defense and no D Linemen who were in the top 100 of their recruiting class.
Worse case scenario the D is just as bad but Riley is running the offense so we're at least a 10 win team until he finds a good DC.

To be fair, that started before Riley. OU consistently had good defenses until Venables left for Clemson, and Bob replaced him with Mike.

When Riley took over, he waited too long to fire Mike, but as a young first-time HC, firing your mentor's brother was probably a difficult call to make.

Now, he hasn't fixed the problems with Grinch, so I agree, it's something he needs to address, no matter where he's coaching next year.

Riley is the best hire LSU can make outside of Saban.

I’m glad you don’t have input on the coaching search. He can’t win in games that matter outside the crappy Big 12

Name one other candidate that has done as much as Riley not named Saban or Dabo in college football right now?

Riley makes the playoffs on a yearly basis pretty much. Yes he loses in the playoffs but with the studs he could get a LSU, Riley would be lethal.

Anyone who thinks this he is a guaranteed home run hire isn’t looking at this rationally and from more than a “but muh playoffs” view.

I’m not saying he’s a bad hire exactly just that while, yes, he has made the playoffs many times, he does have a very easy path to them given the conference he is in and the fact that Texas has been all kinds of terrible the last 15 years. You also have to take into account that every time they faced a quality opponent in the playoffs, they got their asses kicked except once by a very “meh” Georgia team with their inept head coach.

Idk about you, but I’d rather make the playoffs 3 times in 5 years and lose over struggling to get to .500 in SEC play every year

They had a buttload of NFL players, won the SEC, and lost the national title in OT.

To be fair, he is in an extremely weak conference. Had Oklahoma been in the SEC all those years, they would not have even come close to sniffing the playoffs.

You realize OU has limitations in recruiting with its location and limited talent in Oklahoma.

Yes, his OU teams aren’t likely going to consistently compete, but at a team like LSU with the regional and especially local talent, he’d field a much more well-rounded roster.

I think some of you think OU should get the same talent as here. They don’t.

Can you just admit you are wrong? That UGA team was loaded and lost the national title game by 3 points in OT to Alabama.

Damn there are some real tards in this fanbase

We're only talking about one of the top 6 winningest and prestigious programs in all of college football historically, that has been to the playoffs 4x (about to be 5x) more than LSU.

OU is a true blueblood, and will continue to be in the SEC. The Big 10/12 whatever hasn't always been crap

And? Orgeron WON a national championship. He’s still a bad coach.
