It literally says in the OP that 12 players voted. So yes, it sounds like the players did vote through their captains.

If I were a top offensive player and didn’t particularly like Kiffin heading on the LSU, I would still rather he coach in the playoffs so that I can look as good as possible.

I know for a fact that more than 3 players on the leadership council said no. Banks, Perkins, Sanders, and Dottery 100% said no.
The only one that I know voted yes was Chambliss, and plenty of people have indicated he may have been the only one.
