You're in the minority there.

Chicken definitely doesn't like it.

No way they are going to pay a college coach 25% more than then highest paid NFL guy. Come on.

that is some serious denial

it not denial it's just smart business sense. Why pay 25% more than Payton when you can pay 8.1 Mil and say you are the highest paid coach in football. You certainly aren't going to give away 2.4 Mil/year you don't need to just for fun. There are only maybe 2-4 schools who could even pay that anyway so it isn't like TX is in a bidding war.

Were you negotiating?

I imagine sexton did his job and Saban has all the leverage. Think about it.

Dude, I'm not usually the type to call names, but you are a moron. I have never, ever made a joke about the tornado and wouldn't. That was tragic.

With respect, though, pro athletes and coaches tend to lend a helping hand to the home city during crises and holidays. It's part of the gig. It doesn't make them one of you. The same goes for LSU and the Saints. I think college players take it a little more to heart, but coaches and pro guys that are paid to be there know all about PR.

because they want saban. Just giving him an extra million more than bama might isnt going to drag him away

I am pretty sure it is just one. Even still that gives more credit to it because no one can compete with what they are willing to give him

Saying that a tragedy like the tornado could have had an effect on Saban and his wife is reasonable.

You - and many others - saying that it's unfathomable - that's moronic.

From another thread on the forum but might as well repost it here since it's relevant to the $ discussion right now.

From The Egg:

quote:

quote:

quote:
After the Alamo Bowl press conference Red McCombs held court after Mack was ushered away by bowl reps. The topic quickly turned to Nick Saban.

"I've never met Mr. Saban, but I admire him very much," McCombs said. "It's not so much that he wins, but it's what he does with his players."

McCombs expounded.

"He takes good players and makes them great," he said. "When you can take a good employee and make them great that means you're winning."

On if Texas can get Nick Saban:

"I don't think there's any question we can get him," McCombs said. "All the money that's not under the Vatican is at UT. Budgets were an issue when Mack came here. They aren't anymore."

"If money is a problem then that means I'm a part of the problem."

Escalating salary. I'm sure the deal isn't the same salary per year over the life of the contract.

Nothing new will happen until Mack retires tomorrow. It's going to be a long 30 hours. Unless of course, someone makes a post on twitter about a sourse they have. I'll be tuned in...

Really? I could see Sean Payton staying in New Orleans because of how it affected him.

But then again, the thought of New Orleans doesn't send me into a blind rage.

Find one person who said that's unfathomable. Nobody has. However, it's funny when Gumps imply that the help he provided means he wants to spend the rest of his life in Tuscalousy. Sure, he has a soft spot in his heart for Tuscalousy, but he also has a soft spot for Baton Rouge. So does Terry on both accounts. That didn't stop him from going to Miami, though.
