Guess it's capped on a lot of coaches then.

Sure, but those other coaches won't cost 8/$120M - 10/$150M, either.

Does drink even have one elite offense on his resume?

I think he's created more of the run/defense model, and has done well at that. He's at a less advantageous spot than Kiffin.

I think he has kind of proved that this year.

Just playing Devil's advocate here. What was the "big game" that he won? Winning a playoff game would be the qualifier or the UGA game. Y'alls schedule set up pretty nicely for y'all this season. I think the OU win was a good one but they aren't that good.

See he’s more in line with the Kelly blueprint which I don’t love

Kelly’s offense sucked until they were forced to unleash Jayden due to an all time horrible D

Drink and Kiffin are a lot alike. Drink is just in a less advantageous position and lacks the media history and social media presence/marketplace of Kiffin. The problem with both is going to be how much money and how many years they would demand. I don't worry about either of them checking out or not putting in the work like we saw with Kelly. I don't worry about either of them not sharpening the spear so to speak in terms of strategy and innovation either which Kelly clearly had no interest in doing

na drink doesnt win any games he isnt a big favorite in

i agree with everythign else. I just dont think Drink is that good and is more a product of getting a lucky arse schedule. I think he ends up at Penn State anyways.

But we are resetting it for the guy who hasn't won a title. They'd be resetting it for a guy who has.

There's going to be a point where we can't afford the buyout and I think most people agree but we will have to pay. Kiffin is going to be in that range. It just creates a very narrow level of wiggle room and if we choose wrong then we're stuck for a long time.

Day, for all of this faults, made multiple playoffs and won a title. He's going to make the playoffs again this year and is the favorite to win again. And I still wouldn't pay him that much without the total infrastructure that Ohio State provides him, which we will not be able to provide our coach.

yea i am all for kiffin but because of the reasons you listed, I am not sure we are not better off going to offer Dillingham 9-10 and using the rest for assistant pool and NIL.

one of my biggest issues with Drink is its going to cost 11+ to go get him, not worth it imo.

No one actually knows this and as long as you don’t guarantee the contract it doesn’t matter anyway

I've been making this argument since day 1.

After how big of a failure last year was, at that.

Are you saying resetting the market on Kiffin isn't a good idea?

Or, are you saying it isn't going to happen?

But I'd roll the dice on the UNT guy just because he could bring his QB with him.

I’m starting to lean this way. You could get him cheap and if it doesn’t work out it won’t cost an arm and a leg to cut him loose.

Not to mention that our schedules are worse than Mizzou's so if he goes 9-3/8-4 now what would it be here? Just looking at his inability of winning the big games alone doesn't appeal to me. Might as well have kept BK for that.

No one knows the answer to this, but he’d have better rosters at LSU too so your point is retarded

so your contention is he will take a job that has more pressure for no pay raise? his current extension pays him

2025: $9 million
2026: $9.25 million
2027: $9.25 million
2028: $9.5 million
2029: $9.5 million

but you think he is going to come here for less than 11 and it not be guaranteed? come on man, you are smarter than that.

hell mizzou will match anything until prolly 11

This season alone? At the moment it’s @Oklahoma. LSU sucks now obviously but at the time y’all were #4 in the nation.

If you get Lane kiffin you will almost be guaranteed a top 10 if not top five offense in the country. That alone has a huge appeal to it

You can get that with Eric Morris for a whole lot cheaper

It's an extremely risky idea.

It's also an extremely costly idea (clearly).

It's going to happen and it's going to be a massive gamble for whomever does it (OM, LSU, or UF)

I will never understand people who get so upset about how much someone makes in a free market economy, especially when they’re not the ones paying it.

You’d need more than that to pull Dillingham, ASU will probably giving him at least that in the next month or so

At LSU it used to be irrelevant but between buyouts , revenue sharing, and NIL it’s something we have to consider

We have deep pockets here but not unlimited like some of our counterparts
