It Feels like Arkansas is actually in the best position for a coach now

With the Tennessee calamity (probably Arkansas's closest competition for coaches) and with A&M seemingly dead set on chasing Jimbo, Arkansas - who most said would be fricked during the hiring season-actually seems to be set with the best pool of potential coaching candidates.
Kiffin, Norvell, Leach, (Maybe Venables) and yes, even still some saying Gus is in play if he loses this weekend (he won't come either way though).
It seems regardless, Arkansas is going to get e very quality coach that will probably have significant input as to who his boss will be, especially if he is hired first which seems now likely.
If you're one of these guys, Arkansas also looks very sane and stable compared to Tenner, all while probably paying exactly the same salary.

Would not surprise me at all if Arkansas and State end up having the best hires of the offseason. Not having immense pressure to hire a big name like Gruden or Chip Kelly or whoever allows a search with due diligence.

I think Leach would be a homerun for them. He knows the area recruiting-wise.

Petrino and Bielema were both hired with almost no warning or leaks. Looks like this hire is gonna go down the same way, which is a good thing.

This is the week guys, if Gus loses this time, it really is going to happen.

Might. Might not. I doubt he's forgotten that you guys wanted him fired 4 weeks ago, tho.

Thus begins the reign of MSU and Arkansas atop the SEC West.

No matter what anyone on this board or in the media says, Arkansas recently ends up with very good hires on paper.
1976: Broyles hires Lou Holtz
1984: Broyles hires Ken Hatfield from Air Force
1991: Broyles promotes Jack Crowe from OC(this is why Ark has never gone coordinator route again)
1993: Broyles hires Danny Ford
1998: Broyles hires Houston Nutt(least experienced HC hire)
2008: Long hires Bobby Petrino
2012: Long hires Bret Bielema
The history of the Arkansas job being open, shows that there is always interest from top coaches from around the nation. Outside of the Crowe hire, each head coach has been a known commodity at the HC position. Outside of Houston Nutt, each coach has coached at a very high level.
History says, Arkansas will normally make a very good hire on paper. Since 1957, Bret Bielema is the ONLY head coach hire with experience, who hasn't worked out well for Arkansas.

This MSU hire is incredibly huge for their program.
Moreso than it would normally be.
Ole Miss is about to be in the gutter for a few years and MSU has a real chance to dominate the state in ways they have never before. The right coach could set them up for big success for over a decade.

It's nice to have a fanbase with realistic yet optimistic expectations. Skip right past Gruden, Kelly, and Frost to logical options like Pruitt, Venables, Norvell, etc... Then fans are happy and actually support the hire when it's made.

Arky has a boat ton of money and reasonable expectations.

People tend to forget about this. The amount of money Arkansas is paying out this year in buyouts alone and not blinking an eye, speaks volumes. In the midst of a $200 million stadium renovation.

I would agree. 90% of Arkansas fans are content with 9 win seasons and being in contention for the SEC West every 2 or 3 years. Sort of like Houston Nutt's tenure here. Nutt just seemed to have too low of a down year. Petrino proved a coach can have Arkansas in position at the end of the season his last two years. That is all a fan base can ask for, really.

Arkansas seems like a great job for good coach. Nice area, nice facilities, very good fanbase. Petrino proved Hogs can win in the SEC.
Maybe since they got rid of Long things will happen for them.

It's Kiffin or Norvell. My money is on Lane. Just waiting for them to finish out their season.
Very slim outside chance Gus just wants the hell out of Auburn and comes here, but I just don't see it. I feel like he is positioning himself for a big Auburn raise. I would rather have Kiffin anyway.

I’ve always thought Gundy and Arkansas would be a match made in heaven but it seems like he’s patched things up with T Boone. Lane would be very interesting

I'm pulling for Les Miles to go to Arkansas.

Would love to see what kind of talent Kiffin could bring to the Hill
