this thread just reminded me of my #3

Jim fricking Zorn

he was hired as OC and the new HC was going to be forced to have him as OC. nobody bit so Snyder just made him HC

I had completely forgotten about this. What a shitshow that was. Gibbs bringing that train wreck of a franchise to the playoffs twice in his second tenure is a testament to how good of a coach he is

Vance Joseph was a pretty awful hire. I think the Dolphins were last in defense the year that he was hired away (he was their defensive coordinator).

18th in the league

His only year coordinating a defense on any level

Sean Peyton was just as bad of a hire. Qb coach to head coach.

Payton was the Assistant Head Coach in Dallas as well as the QB coach, had been an OC, and was in the league for a decade.

But I do agree that Payton was a bold hire and a risk.

29th in yards given up. I guess that's what I was thinking about.

The packers hired the titans offensive coordinator who ranked 27th in scoring. He was the rams coordinator before that and qb coach in previous years.. why isn’t he a WTF hire?

Because they had NFL experience at the very least. Kingsbury has zero experience in the league and his college experience as a college HC is not stellar. The NFL is vastly better than college. Plus he is going to be paired with a mediocre rookie QB.

Kiffin was a bigger one. Went from a college co-oc to hc of the Raiders. No head coaching experience. Never even a coordinator by himself. He was 31 (I think) when he got the job. Easily the biggest WTF in NFL history.

This.

Kiffin was a FAR bigger WTF hire.

Kingsbury will have Rosen and that offense looking solid. They just need to hire a great DC and give him full autonomy. This could actually work out.

Daddy was a respected defensive coordinator. He was getting a job. Nepotism Football League.

Nobody brought up Jim Tomasula. Everybody knew that was going to fail. Bruce Coslet getting a second chance with the Jets was horrible but maybe predictable being the Jets. Ray Handley replacing Bill Parcells was pretty bad too.

I actually know who Kingsbury is. I had no idea who Wilks was until he was hired....

What's the tuck rule game have to do with Kiffin?

I think Kingsbury should have been an NFL OC/QB coach for sure before getting a HC gig. But we shall see. As long as he hires a good staff he may be alright.

It has to be Kiffin unless you can shoehorn retaining Hue Jackson after a 0-16 season and 1-31 total record into the definition of "hiring."

Kiffin had never even been a solo OC or in the NFL, let alone a HC. At least Dave Shula was a NFL position coach.

Zorn at least had the resume to be an NFL OC - 10 years as NFL QB coach after 10+ years in the league as a player. How he ended up HC is just Syndering.

Kingsbury has done nothing to warrant even an OC gig. He has never coached in the NFL. He doesn't bring anything scheme-wise that will impress at the next level. It didn't even impress at the college level.

He will lose the locker room very quickly. Players can get over the inexperienced thing if they bring something to the table (McVay speaks for himself), but a young guy no one has worked with before with no real genius? It's going to get bad. Honestly won't be surprised if he doesn't last longer than a year.

He'll definitely get that since Wilks only got a year. Keim will be the first fall guy in Arizona.

I'm waiting for the day a black head coach, who doesn't have any NFL coaching experience, is fired by a college team. In that same off-season, he is hired as a NFL head coach.

What about when Dennis Allen was hired to coach the Raiders?

He created Mahomes and has some fingerprints on Mayfield. That’s more NFL success than Chip Kelly ever had.

As with most things, the fact that everyone hates this hire means it'll probably turn out ok.
