yeah it's pretty clear that the NFL is in full on McVay copycat mode, basically splitting up the team with 2 HCs

and that part isn't exactly new. the Bears in the 80s effectively had 2 coaches

good news for guys like KK and MF is that there are plenty of DC options with HC experience they can just give full autonomy to. Todd Bowles would be an amazing hire at DC if he's willing to return to the desert

Headed to Tampa with Bruce, getting the band back together

I'm all for the hire. So it fails? So what. With Rosen there and Johnson, some solid parts on O.

He doesn't have to go recruit players to Lubbock. Cardinals will at least be exciting to watch.

That's all these teams care about anymore in reality

like i've said about 10 times, the ceiling on this hire is pretty high. if he flames out in 2 years, it's very unlikely that Rosen is in a worse place. it's very likely that even if KK fails as HC, Rosen is exponentially more prepared and coached up no matter what

Vance Joseph was a pretty awful hire. I think the Dolphins were last in defense the year that he was hired away (he was their defensive coordinator).

Art Shell redux is still the most wtf to me, although Al Davis was involved so I guess that lessens the WTF impact.

1. Lane Kiffin (was a college co-OC and not even the #1 co-OC choice from that team)

2. Art Shell (who got an OC of his bed and breakfast retirement to coach a dinosaur offense)

Bills hiring Chan Gailey was really odd. Even for the Bills

Its definately a wtf hire, but i could actually see this working for some odd reason... he has the X's and O's part down, thats all you need in the nfl... College is all about recruiting, you cant recruit to TT... wouldnt surprise me to see him succeed despite his record... its about finding the right piece to a puzzle in the nfl...

I think on paper it’s a good hire for today’s nfl, but the thing I keep going back to is how are the players going to respect this guy? His resume’ is not strong as a coach, and he won’t be much older than the guys he’ll be coaching.

Sean Peyton was just as bad of a hire. Qb coach to head coach. At least Kingsbury dominates on one side of the ball. He needs a gm and DC and can focus on offense.

Plus had Sean wanted it I’m guessing he would’ve been the guy for Dallas after Parcells in 2006 had he stayed

well on offense, if he puts them in a position to succeed, i don't think they'll care.

on defense it won't matter b/c the DC likely has full control and may even be out of his hands

this thread just reminded me of my #3

Jim fricking Zorn

he was hired as OC and the new HC was going to be forced to have him as OC. nobody bit so Snyder just made him HC

Barry Switzer was a pretty large WTF moment. But this eclipses that.

"Ever" is a long time.

The Bengals hired David Shula at 33 years old and he had done virtually nothing before that besides have the last name Shula.

The Raiders re-hired Art Shell after Shell had be out of coaching for 6 years

Vance Joseph? He had been a DC all of one year (and that year wasn't particularly great) when Denver hired him.

Raheem Morris? He was hired to be Tamps' DC and then became HC after Tampa fired Gruden.

Still, Lane Kiffin may have been the biggest WTF hire
