So by relevant you mean not playing in a conference and playing no one out of conference only to get your arse handed to you in a bowl game... Lou Holtz is that you?

I’m an Irish Catholic Marine from New Orleans and I totally understand the ND brand. I also understand that TD Tony is the kind of piece of shite that is the reason why everybody hates Bama fans. The condescending a-hole attitude from a typical Alabama keyboard tough guy like you is priceless. Remember, be careful of the lithium when you cook Meth with your son.

This may shock you, but not everyone views everything like you.

I can't believe I'm reading this. Another example of LSU fans thinking they are waaaay more important than they are. Someone that's starting watching football way back there in 2000.

LSU is a brand in Louisiana, se Texas and south ms.
Notre dame is a global brand.

Dude, a job at Notre dame is way more prestigious and it isn't close. This op was a gem.

An absolutely horrible post. Made me cringe.

Believe it or not, some people don't want to work for a boss who is a lot less intelligent than them. They want to feel that the man in charge is competent. Don't you think it's possible that during the interview with Orgeron face to face Freeman started to think, "I'm going to work for this guy?"

Take off your P&G glasses, really focus on MF’s situation, and it’s not really that hard to imagine.

Also, we have the gift of hindsight now where we no longer have to imagine.

So why bother getting on a plane w/wife to BR?

UH...so she could check it out to see if she might be comfortable living in BR or in the Gulf South in general. Why does that seem so strange to you?

I agree that LSU is probably going to get you to a championship before ND, but in the larger scheme of things, both programs are top-tier, so I totally understand why he would choose ND if he values proximity to family, wants to raise his kids in the Midwest, etc.

This is worded very harshly, basically an insult to O...

but objectively- O is an "idea" guy, not an advanced technician who has proficiency in the game. He organizes.

There probably are guys out there that want to work for someone they can learn from, not just contribute to. Those guys line up to work under someone like Saban.

Guys who would work for O are more likely to view LSU as a spot to show their own skills, and move onward to a bigger job.

O is what most people’s bosses are like. Great at glad handing, not really good at the technical fundamentals. He makes the higher ups feel warm and fuzzy, but he couldn’t do it on his own.

I have a boss just like him. Can’t do or manage for heck, but people like him. He can put a bow on anything and make people laugh.

Actually strategizing and running the department...absolute disaster. O seems about like the same way to me.

If I’m another AD I say “do you want to move your family here were you will be paid well and have some degree of stability? Or do you want to move your family far away from home where those crazies will likely want you fired unless you make the playoffs?”

This.

They made it due to an easy schedule and name recognition and honestly this year they shouldn't have been there. They beat Clemson in triple OT with a backup freshman QB. A Clemson team that was blown out by Ohio state while starting their Heisman trophy finalist QB (not the freshman backup). They lost the ACC championship in the game prior to the playoffs. The only reason they made the playoffs was because of name recognition and there weren't a ton of options with the Big 12 shitting the bed and the Pac 12 champ being 4-2 Oregon. Most importantly, every time Notre Dame has been selected over the last decade, they've proven their rankings or the voting process wrong by getting blown out by top tier teams. In 2012 they lost 42-14 to Alabama. In 2018 they lost 30-3 to Clemson. In 2020, in their most recent game to the playoffs they lost to #2 Clemson 34-10 in the ACC championship. Then they followed up that loss getting beat by Alabama 31-14 in the playoffs. Let's take a look at Notre Dames relevance over the years.

Freeman isn’t man enough to want a nc. He got close in college but lost, he had a chance to coach at a school that has the second most national titles in the bcs/ playoff era but chose one that hasn’t actually won anything in 30 years.

It’s ok not all people want to be the best or the spotlight.

So you agree ND is relevant. You don't get much more relevant than brand caché and name recognition.

Notre Dame is an old fading power. Outside of an Urban Myer type hire, they are done. The top athletes will not go there anymore.
