I'm a little conflicted because Kelly played LB in college

If he had been a lineman, I'd be worried. For some reason, I have a prejudice against linemen coaches. It makes me think of coaches like O, DiNardo, Miles, etc. (I thought Hallman fit into that category, but the only thing I could find on him was that he once intercepted Kenny Stabler twice in a bowl game, so probably not a lineman).
I'm not sure about Linebackers, though. The only one that comes to mind is Ditka. Good with the Bears, not so much with the Saints.
Can anybody think of any great coaches who started out as linebackers?

Ditka never played linebacker in his life.

Is OP former Illinois governor George Ryan who thought Mike Ditka and Dick Butkus were the same person?

I am now interested in how you make all the rest of your life decisions...

Linebacker is the most cerebral position on defense. That would be like you saying that you wouldn’t want to hire a baseball coach because he played catcher in college or a basketball coach because he was a point guard. I mean what the frick

Mike Vrabel of the AFC South division leading Titans (8-4).

If he didn’t try to get his wife to go to Colette’s and many other sex clubs, he may have won the 2004 senate race in Illinois, changing the entire trajectory of the last 13 years

That’s college, not pros. He also played baseball and basketball and intramural wrestling.

The claim was that he "never played linebacker in his life".
Anyway, back onto the topic - I'm looking for great linebacker coaches. Can you think of any?
