Ditka was a tight end.

What a train wreck post. Ditka was a TE ... a hall of fame one. Sheesh.

Famous coaches that were linebackers ... there have been a few:

Chuck Noll
Jack Del Rio (played LB for the Saints!)
Bill Cowher
Marty Schottenheimer
Jim Haslett
Mike Singletary
Mike Vrabel
Barry Odom
Dave Aranda
Pat Fitzgerald
Kyle Whittingham
Kevin Sumlin
Marcus Freeman

There's been quite a few. I'm sure my very brief research has missed a huge chunk of guys that were linebackers and went on to become highly regarded coaches.

Read the preceding posts.

Who else ya got? I'm looking for names of other great coaches who played linebacker. A couple were named by posters above.

Bear Bryant and Bill Belichick both played on the line during their playing days so I have no idea what you are talking about

This is intentional misdirection ... that section you quoted is from his college days. Also big difference between starting at TE and leading the team in receiving and "serving as a linebacker, defensive end, and punter."

That's like saying DK Metcalf is a Safety because he goes and stands at the goal line at end-of-half hail mary situations on defense.

Intentional misdirection? You guys have been exposed to too many conspiracy theories. I was simply trying to find other top coaches who had played linebacker. I'm not sure why playing it in college would be off limits. That's where Kelly played it as well.

In any event, you've provided a nice list. That is what I was looking for. Thanks!

I’m sure a ton of older coaches played it considering guys went both ways back in the day.
