I would do the exact same thing if I were Lane.. he deserves to finish what he started... Verge will wait if LSU and we the fan base want him bad enough we can wait...

If LSU allows this to continue past tomorrow, it’s on Verge and LSU. Regardless, no one is worth this…ok, maybe Saban. I even think there’s a good chance the guy might be trolling LSU. I wish that Dillingham tee time thing was actually real lol

Shut up dude….you have no idea what you are talking about

The good news is Ole Miss is giving Lane an ultimatum. They are forcing him to decide. That’s best case scenario for LSU. I don’t see Lane responding well to ultimatums

When bama wins it’ll be reported tonight. Dear god his team has a chance to play for SEC ship. Which has never happened. Ole Miss isn’t going to kiss that away they’d be stupid to.

Guys, I know it feels late but we are still very early in this process. I hope the LSU powers do not flinch and ruin what they have patiently waited for. At the moment, LSU is in a win-win situation. Let Lane and OM duke it out. It’s been handled masterfully by LSU…don’t mess that up this close to the finish line.

This is a very good post.

My working theory is LSU told Lane they have no problem letting him finish the full season with Ole Miss thru playoffs. This is NOT something LSU wants or truly will allow to happen if it comes down to it. But I think they told Lane he could do this… knowing that Ole Miss would never allow it to happen (as they shouldn’t).

It makes LSU look accommodating when in fact they are daring Ole Miss to let him continue to coach. I think Ole Miss may be considering calling LSU’s bluff…

LSU obviously cannot wait until possibly mid January with a hand shake agreement in place. They would need to pivot and find someone else.

Would you rather have Lane in Jan or no lane at all?

There's no coach of his caliber available unless you can get meyer out of retirement

In this situation from LSU's position I would tell Lane if you want to coach in the playoffs and finish it, fine, but you'll need to sign a contract now that says you'll come to LSU at the conclusion of OM's run. If Lane doesn't sign anything binding, it is time to move on.

Yep

No clause needed if they force him to mak a decision. You’re coaching at Ole Miss next year or not. Period. If not, he is no longer the coach & he willingly left. OM would not owe him a buyout. If he stays, sign the extension. Period.

If he is suspended with pay Lane isn’t sticking around. He’s off to LSU right away. It has the result we want which is to drive Lane to LSU

That’s my point as well. They don’t have to fire him and pay a buyout, and if suspended they neither need cause nor incur a penalty.

As you said, he would immediately leave for LSU.

It sounds like Ole Miss will force Lane into a decision. He either signs the extension or he is suspended/fired

Suspended or fired on what grounds? Not signing an extension?

Lane is holding the cards. He is about to finish the season on his terms, gut the runt in Jan portal and in the end get Carter fired for botching everything .

LSU will let LK do what he wants. He won’t screw his LSU team for next year. He’ll make sure the roster is taken care of by some assistants for a few weeks.
He has proven to LSU that he REALLY wants to be at LSU and not just any job better than OM!! To go through all of this now, and not take the easy way out and wait for a down year. I’m impressed and excited to have a coach coming that will give 100% to win after what he had to do to leave OM

If you move on lane, you are going for who? Exactly no one. It’s lane or bust. And bust is bad.
