Are you not going to be an LSU fan in 10 years?

Look at where we are right now. We aren't in the "1 game away from a championship" era anymore.

We need to win. the offense DOES need an overhaul. Talent alone doesn't win NCs.

The best part for me was this though...

Hmmm and the head coach doesn't factor in to that situation of all things being equal???

It is kind of puzzling how many LSU fans seem to think we've had a talent deficiency. Apparently the NFL executives are not of the same POV.

The talent at LSU over the last 15 years has been incredible.

Wow. It's clear now that you not only want O, you want him for all the wrong reasons. Your shortsighted way of thinking is a recipe for destroying programs.

heres what i said about Orgeron in this thread

I dont want to hire him today, but if he wins the SEC, he should be the second choice behind Fisher at the very least.

recruiting and continuity are not the wrong reasons. LSU is 2 points and half a second from 7-0, we need an updated offense, not a complete overhaul. by all accounts O wants to bring in a new OC and Aranda would stay. thats a formula for the playoff.

do we look destroyed? what about the program right now makes you think we're headed in the wrong direction? dont speculate or cite things from a decade ago, WHAT ABOUT LSU RIGHT NOW, what have you seen in the past month, that makes you think we have a "recipe for destroying programs."

Sorry man. That's a terrible way to conduct a coaching search.

You got to go with the coach that has the best resume that he proven he can sustain success

So sick of this "outsider" bull. You get the best you can get.

I don't agree, but I can't argue if he actually runs the table.

He's not the only coach in the country who can recruit.

Just because we're successful in this offense doesn't mean we wouldn't be successful in another type of offense. Fearing to change is no way to be. Plus, we don't have a lot to go off of.

Aranda probably has one year left here unless he's our HC. A successful coordinator is usually not around long. Aranda has it in his contract that he can leave buy out free if it's to be a HC. The best coordinators usually become head coaches.

You say "I dont want to hire him today, but if he wins the SEC" that means that you want to see what happens the rest of the season. If he struggles down the stretch, what then? His first three games don't mean much do they. That's why looking at things with such a small amount of results can be dangerous. Especially when the current HC has only had one chance to build a program in his image from the ground up and was unsuccessful.

At this moment right now, O has only beaten two ranked teams in his entire head coaching tenure (Ole Miss and Stanford), and one of them was really not good. Talk to me at the end of the season.

You're the one speculating by saying "What if O wins out". Without your speculation, your argument is very hollow.
quote:

I choose to hold O accountable for his only full time head coaching gig until he proves otherwise. You can choose not to if you want.

I love it. Any chance we can get one that also features "I don't give a frick about 10 years from now"?

If that don't epitomize the vast majority of what is wrong with the state of Louisiana, I don't know what else could. I grew up and lived in Louisiana until my late 20's. I love the state and still return when I can to visit family and to enjoy all that is good about it. But everyone knows, there are big problems with the governance and leadership in the state.

I live in Texas now and guess what, they give a f**k about 10 years from now. Trust me, it works much better. Short sightedness in the football program is part of the reason Miles was retained for so long. I would give up every recruit currently committed to LSU and every member of the coaching staff in order to get the right coach who can lead LSU for the next decade. Anything less than that is being incredibly stupid but not a surprise given how things are done at LSU. Thanks for the reminder of how not to do it.

agree with everything till you got to there, i think we should do everything we can to keep aranda, because he could be the right coach for the next ten years..

and Im sure you prob agree, didnt want you to think i was taking you so literal.. i get what you are saying.. good post.

Just one problem, all other things would NOT be equal. You just made the case against hiring O. So he brings in some high level classes, let's say he splits the next 4 years with Saban for the #1 class. 2 for O and 2 for Saban. Sure, the talent level will be pretty even, but are you really going to sit there and tell us you think O is a better coach than Saban? Sure O can hire some elite OCs and DCs, but there are more than just 1 of each of them. By your logic, it would then come down to basically CEO vs Saban. Do you have confidence that O can be the deciding factor?

Saban went undefeated in 2009 with a bunch of 3 stars on the starting roster.

no

Julio Jones #4 overall
Trent Richardson #6 overall
Dre Kirkpatrick #11 overall
Rolando McClain #35 overall

I think they only had a handful of 3*s starting at that point. Mostly their big guys on the DL/OL. Star studded roster tbh.

sure Saban has the most talent by far, no one with any sense would argue against that. But this is LSU and we don't have overwhelming talent, we have very good talent, so we need a good coach.

quote:

Orgeron can get us on a level field there. the last thing we need is some total outsider doing some massive overhaul

he has to prove it on the field. No one is just going to hand the keys over to Orgeron. If he proves that he is the better coach than Saban by beating Saban with a less talented team, then by all means. But that is a very long shot and not likely.

We haven't seen all facets of Orgeron yet as he still has 4 games to be played plus a bowl game. Only a truly great coach could run that gauntlet. He is a great recruiter. Win out the season and he will prove he is a elite Head coach as well.

That's the issue. It's not about a month's worth of football. It's about an overall look at how a coach has run a program. So you can say WHAT ABOUT LSU RIGHT NOW, but Coach O isn't the guy who built the program you're evaluating him on.

We all agree O did the right thing by stepping away from the Les/Cam offensive play calling, but the actual program that is in place now belongs to Miles. We have yet to see what a "Orgeron program" would look like besides the time he did it at Ole Miss. 11 games as interim HC doesn't tell you much about how well he would build and maintain his own program.
