As an LSU fan, I certainly hope you’re right.

I just don’t see it. As long as he continues running the offense and calling plays, I do not believe he has any chance of winning another title.

And the 10year guarantee is super concerning…what incentive is there to be the hardest-working coach in CFB?

Riley would be a monster at LSU.

I would rather have a coach you never have to worry about the QB position. I think he would field better defenses at LSU with better overall defensive talent.

Not a fair comparison I admit, but look at Kliff Kingsbury in the NFL. He never could field a defense at Texas Tech.

I’m prepared, I argued the Orgeron hire and was right.
Jimbo is on another planet than Orgeron.

Look at what he’s doing in recruiting with aTm. And he has to compete with Texas, LSU & OU. They are trending up. I mean Jimbo will be 3-1 vs LSU after this year.

He isn’t my top 3 pick, but we could do a lot worst from that list of coaches.

I remember another coach, that wasn't quite proven at the time. He interviewed at LSU, never got a second interview, then shortly after that went on to be the coach of Florida, and was quite successful there.

Not saying Napier would be successful, but the meltdown here would be epic if LSU passed on him, and he ended up at another SEC school winning championships.

You could say that about any coach. If Aranda is passed on now and ends up kicking our asses at Alabama one day, this place would melt.

He isn’t recruiting any better than Sumlin did and is getting the exact same production on the field as Sumlin.

Being 3-1 against LSU over 4 years isn’t saying much when you consider who we had as a coach those 4 years.

Exactly! I was just using Napier as an example.

Yes, Jimbo is better than Franklin and Tucker; very hard to say that he's better than Napier at this time in Napier's career.

He is a better hire right now than Aranda, although it's difficult to determine Aranda's ceiling.

Again, like Napier, you can't really say that yet. Especially when you consider that Aranda's defenses consistently stifled Jimbo's offenses.

quote:

Can't tell if Dabo is a serious candidate but I'd prefer Jimbo, especially if Venables didn't come with the deal.

Dabo has never been a candidate. I don't have proof of that, but he makes no sense as a candidate.

quote:

Riley would be an excellent hire, but his defenses have been weak and he's probably a comparable candidate to Jimbo. I'd be happy with either.

Riley has never had a recruiting base for defenses and even saying that, his defenses have gotten lightyears better with Grinch.

quote:

Day, Fickell, and Kelly are solid but aren't coming and may not be as a good a fit as Jimbo.

Day definitely isn't coming but Fickell isn't 100% not coming yet and Kelly has one foot out the door to retirement.

quote:

This is just all my opinion, but I would be very happy if the choice is Jimbo. He'd win consistently and win a NC within 5 years.

Maybe, but Jimbo seems like he's good for multiple losses each year that he has no business losing.

I'm not a huge fan of Jimbo but you do know that his starting QB got hurt earlier in the year. He beat Bama with a backup QB. You can do a lot worse than Jimbo. If it is not Riley, I would prefer Jimbo. He'll keep the trenches stockpiled and he is a good recruiter in the South.

Woodward does not care what any of us think. He does not care about our opinion. He is the one talking to these coaches. He will make the decision. He will not be aware of a melt. He will make a hire where he doesn’t have to worry about the football team and go on with his day.

Exactly this.

Go look at their defense now compared to the Sumlin era…he’s recruiting lights out on defense. That’s the difference.
