Time flies....I was in the second recruiting class (1988) of Beamer's and to see the physical toll over the past year has been very sad. What made him successful was his competitiveness.

He might not have been the best in game coach, but a great CEO and someone who truly gave all players chances even when we f@cked up.

I hope you have a long healthy retirement.

could be our two schools fighting for the services of "The Product" this offseason.

after seeing him get blown out by Washington, I'm not sure bringing him back is worth all the commotion it would cause

Good spot for Fuente to land. Actually I would say the best spot for him.

No doubt. Good recruiting base in a very winnable conference. Best job available right now except for usc.

Why would will or any AAC coach go to Maryland or Virginia? Can't do anything there that can't do at Temple. Maybe You can really win at VPI. Better off waiting for a major job to open. MAC coaches go to Maryland, and at that only the ones who want to go ahead and cash in for the dough.

Other than playing in an easy power 5 division (ACC coastal) and getting an easy path to the playoffs? Yeah, I guess nothing

Don't see a major difference between the VT and UVA job. UVA has some advantages, the only major one for VT would be alumni support but I think UVA would be fine in that regard if they ever ya know, won.

I would say no. That ship has sailed. If it were 10 years earlier I'd say no doubt, but Bud has lost some luster these last few years.

Without knowing the details, seems like it would be a very attractive job. Recruiting in the area is great. The admin seems very loyal. You could pull a few million a year for 15-20 years.

ETA:

Also would put the ACC right behind the PAC in conferences I would want to coach in.

Good for the hokies.

They were going to be stuck in mediocrity to outright suckage as long Beamer was still there.

They could contend for a big bowl game with the right hire.

Back when Saban was here at LSU, he & Beamer had a gentleman's agreement that, in opening the season that year against each other, neither team would schedule another game to start their season. Once the contract was signed, Beamer promptly agreed to play in of those "preseason" games to jump start their season. Saban fumed for mths & swore he would never schedule a home & home with an out of conference opponent unless LSU hosted the first game.

UVA is one of the finest universities in the country. With that said I think it's fair to say they don't care about football like VT does. If UVA wanted to fund a top flight football program they would've done so. UVA cares more about basketball than football and it's not close.
