My only concern about Herman is what will happen when Texas hires a new AD and Strong under performs again next season? Will he bolt if they offer him?
No way Herman leaves for Texas if he comes to LSU. That would be a lateral move. LSU is a top tier job.

you're either a genius or an idiot!
i'm pulling for genius, although herman wouldn't be my top choice, i'm just not thrilled with jumbo fisher.

not sure how plugged in he is, but Bobby Burton doesn't seem to think Herman would be the favorite even if strong is canned...

Agreed - They do have a reputation for bungling up even a clusterfrick.

Jimbo's agent is Sexton. He has played that same card multiple times to get more for his clients, even when there is zero true interest for his client to go elsewhere.
but, consider this angle. Yes, Sexton would play that card FOR his client. He would fake interest in another school to get a raise FOR his client. But, he wouldn't let some other school use his agent when there is no benefit for his client.
Jimbo got a nice raise for himself AND his assistants last year. (Nole assistants are in the top 10 paid in the country.)
It is possible that Jimbo, and Sexton, are playing that card two years in a row. But I doubt it. I doubt LSU would allow themselves to be duped twice by Sexton with the same coach in back to back years.
I don't know if Jimbo is going. But, I am convinced they are in at least the serious negotiations stage.

word was he did not get a raise.

information is a smokescreen
You watch too much TV. This isn't a fricking game. The people who are making the decision of hiring the HC don't have meetings and try to determine what information they can release to frick with people. If they are an employee their 10 year old maturity level arse should be shown the door.
quote:
Money. Herman will command less than Fisher.
After finishing only his second year on the job at 8-5, I would hope so. LSU should just hire the guy as OC if they want to lose to the SMU's of the SEC.
quote:
Misdirection. Also plays to (2). If you put it out that Jimbo is leading the race
Again, ridiculous assumption. If they put as much work into evaluating and hiring a coach as you think they do misdirecting they will likely do a good job of hiring the next HC.
quote:
Aranda. Herman and Aranda have ties and it is likely Aranda would have less issue with Herman than with Fisher. LSU clearly wants to keep Aranda. This would make it easier.
You don't hire a guy for huge money who just went 8-5 in a season where all but maybe two teams they faced had less talent than his team just because he is friends with the DC who is under contract for two more years.
quote:
Texas. They are apparently announcing that Strong will be retained. I doubt Herman stays another year at Houston, especially since the Big 12 decided not to expand. USC has turned it around and won't be open. Notre Dame might become open, but is that a better job than LSU? No. So where else would Herman go? LSU.
Herman won't be the sought after commodity after this season that he was last year. You don't let a guy who goes 6-1 or 7-1 in the SEC with a Sugar Bowl victory go and then hire a guy who went 8-5 in a little league when he had the talent advantage every week but two.
I wonder who would try to hire Hermster after he has only been a HC for two years and looks to be getting worse each season.
quote:
He was asked about it in interviews, and it was discussed on ESPN Gameday
And that is one of the reasons you think he will be hired by LSU?
quote:
Fisher was spurned last year, or turned LSU down, depending on what you read. Hard to think he comes now, and Herman stays put.
Herman is coming to LSU based on what happened with Jimbo last year? Yeah, right - one has nothing to do with the other.

Take all of that for whatever it's worth
Wouldn't take this bullshite post any other way.

It just makes too much sense
You think so? You actually believe all this hypothetical shite you just posted makes too much sense and will lead to Tom Herman being the coach of LSU? Ha Ha Ha

(3) Misdirection. Also plays to (2). If you put it out that Jimbo is leading the race, you have leverage in negotiation with Herman. It also throws people off your primary target to avoid a bidding war.
im pretty sure Alleva/F.King are too incompetent to think like this......

If Jimbo was just being used by LSU as a decoy and he had no interest in LSU he would merely say, "Look. I'm not interested in LSU. I'm not going to LSU. I have told my agent I'm not interested in LSU. I don't know who started the rumors, but I will make it very clear - I'm not going to LSU."
But even if it's rumors, it could mean a pay raise at FSU. If he debunks it, he eliminates that leverage.

Herman is a Texas legend. Great ties to Houston area obviously.
LSU with a head coach with ties like that to Texas.. hnnnnggggg

To Tiger Ree - Way to cherry pick my post to make points for you to support coach O.
First, you are naïve to think that the administration would not put some misinformation out there, especially after the debacle last fall. Do you also think that every NFL team leading up to the draft is being perfectly honest and upfront about their interests? If LSU just puts out a huge billboard saying we want Jimbo, at whatever cost, then what leverage do they have to negotiate? Plus, leveraging Jimbo versus O also leaves not much weight in LSU's favor, given O's previous history. Other schools aren't exactly knocking down O's door to be their head coach.
Second, I like the way you presume that O will win out including the Sugar Bowl. Especially when reports already indicate that a new coach will be announced immediately following the regular season.
Third, my point about Fisher last year is that he may be less likely to want to commit to LSU than it appears. It also is unlikely that Herman stays at Houston. They don't directly impact each other, except in the context of LSU and its opening.
Fourth, didn't Nick Saban himself contact Herman to ask him for some advice? And it's true that Houston is having a tough season, that fell apart after they were ranked in the top six. But he's recruited well there, his quarterback is a converted wide receiver, and he still beat Oklahoma and Florida State with that bunch. With better talent and facilities, and his offensive mind, he would have a strong likelihood of success here. Kirk Herbstriet called it a perfect match earlier this year. I don't think a few bad games in the context of the season changes that. Especially when the players know that he's probably gone soon. Even Saban lost to UL Monroe one year.
Call it whatever you want. Agree to disagree. I'm sorry it doesn't comport with your desire for Coach O. Others here disagree based on LSU's history that they would be capable of all of this. Might be true, but maybe they've learned from past mistakes. I'm just calling it like I see it, and we'll see if I'm right in a couple of weeks.

Not to mention he's assuming Houston loses its final 3 games. Houston is 8-2 right now, NOT 8-5.

Good point. I see he just made a big post about Herman and Louisville tonight, assuming they lose that too. I don't know that anyone is favoring Houston to win tonight, but they play the games for a reason, and we'll see what happens.

In response to bret75 - Info on FSU coaching staff pay as of August 2016 LINK:
"Last year, head coach Jimbo Fisher’s staff was the sixth highest-paid group of assistant coaches in college football.
"Florida State’s assistant coaches now make a combined $4,939,000.
Fisher signed a contract extension in January of 2015 that will keep him with the school through 2022.
"He is set to earn $5.1 million in base salary this season, a total that ranks him as the country’s fifth highest paid coach in the country behind Alabama’s Nick Saban ($7.08 million), Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh ($7 million), Ohio State’s Urban Meyer ($5.86 million) and Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops ($5.4 million), according to the USA Today database."
So if Jimbo comes he would have to be paid like Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh money to come here, I'd guess. Plus buyout. Staff looks well paid too. And he must really like that DC since he just inked a long term deal there as well.
