I'm surprised no one (not talking about this board but the media in general) isn't even bringing up the name Chip Kelly.

He will sit out then coach in college next year. I can't see another NFL team taking a shot with him.

I agree. And, my first guess would be ND.

Add McElwain to the long shot list. If the offense doesn't show improvement and UF is hovering around .500 then it's over for him.

He's not on the long shot list. He is on the list, period. He may get it turned around. Not saying he will be fired. But, if his offense doesn't show marked improvement next year he will be fired.

He beat UGA and LSU this year. Two teams that he should have lost to.

If the bowl game tomorrow is one of those 6-3 shoot outs, the fans won't be at all hesitant to let him know just how hot his seat is.
He probably wants to stay in the NFL. And, he will get several phone calls, either as HC or OC.

But, I'll bet Urban Meyer would love to have him on the Buckeye staff next year.

Just a thought on Chip Kelly.

Conventional wisdom says he is a better college coach than NFL coach, that his uptempo style just won't work with a 43 man roster.

He apparently let it be known that he wasn't interested in returning to college.

So, Chip, how'd that work out for you?

Thanks again to all of you here.

I appreciate your hospitality and allowing me to join in the discussion of the HC search for LSU.

From an LSU fan perspective, here would be my biggest concern with hiring Orgeron:

First the positives: Great attitude. Loves LSU. Loves the state. Fantastic recruiter. Loads of energy.

Now, the concern: A lot of coaches specialize on one side of the LOS. Easiest example for me is Bobby Bowden. He virtually turned the defense over to Mickey Andrews and had almost nothing to do with it. After one Spring game he was asked about the defense. He replied simply, "Mickey will have them ready to play." Nick Saban, on the other hand, is far more involved in the defense.

I know Orgeron is a DL coach. But, from what I am reading he sold himself to Alleva as being able to hire a great OC and DC and let them run things.

So, what is his job? Recruit and motivate?

That would be my concern. Exactly where does he fit in as far as game planning during the week and, more importantly, on game day when snap decisions have to be made?

Thanks again. I've enjoyed getting to talk with y'all.

You seemed to think for sure Jimbo was gone

Yep. And, I continually reminded everyone: I know nothing. I have no inside sources.

I just look at the coaching carousel and try to come to reasonable conclusions. I am wrong far more often than I am right.

But, it is fun trying to figure it out anyway.

what would be most interesting is who winds up at Florida in Jim leaves

With Spurrier on staff as a consultant/advisor I figure they will hire Dan Mullens.

Amazing how a few days changes things.

Last week, UF fans were laughing at FSU saying that Jimbo was going to LSU.

Now, one of the leading rumors on the coaching carousel is the McElwain is going to Oregon.

And, Gators seems split right down the middle whether to cheer wildly or be upset.

So, who is Oregon gonna hire? I have demonstrated - very clearly - I have no inside information. Anybody here have any sources at Oregon or Florida?
FRom what I recall of Zook at Florida, he seems like a good fit.

1. He is definitely a great recruiter.

2. He has ties to Louisiana. Wasn't he on the Saints staff when Foley hired him at Florida (after missing on Stoops and Shanahan)?

3. And, he can talk as fast and frenetically as Coach Orgeron can. They could have a 30 minute meeting in 5 minutes.

Jimmy Sexton did his job.

You might not like his methods. (If I were an LSU fan I would be thinking, "Alleva allowed that scumbag Sexton to play him like a Stradivarius two years in a row.") But, it is hard to argue with his results.

President John Thrasher tells Warchant.com that Jimbo Fisher’s contract will be “strengthened” after this season.

Look for FSU to hire a "consultant" (a la Bama and Sarkesian) soon. Could be a very logical spot for Charlie Strong.

DC at FSU, I hope.

As an outsider, I will say this:

1. I completely understand the emotions and the rants and venting going on with the fans. While we all understand this sin't life and death, it's "just football," it is still extremely important to fans and fans have a vested interest in the hire.

2. After following the coaching carousel for 2 decades I thought I had a pretty good handle on how the process unfolds. Obviously, I don't. I'm clueless.

3. Thanks for letting me hang around. I'm getting an education from the LSU administration showing me just how little I understand the process.

Once this is all over and y'all get your coach and things settle down, I'll post and explain How differently I assumed this process would have gone down than how it actually went down.

Bottom line: I am shocked that Jimbo or Herman wasn't locked up at least a month ago. I would have never believed LSU would wiat until the week before the season ended to enter into "serious negotiations" with an agent about money.

But, hey, this all could be a smokescreen and on Monday morning Jimbo will walk out from behind the curtain and Alleva will be laughing on the inside about all the rumors floating around knowing that Jimbo had agreed to the deal 6 weeks ago.

Like I say, I know nothing. And, that is becoming more and more obvious every passing day.
Agreed.

The reporter has to ask the question. He knows Herman will give a non-answer, but he has to ask anyway. Herman knows he has to ask the question.

No problem.

But, the reporter doesn't have to ask 5 follow-up questions. Herman did a great job maintaining his composure. You know Herman wanted to give the guy a right cross to the chin and walk away.

Herman came off a lot better than the idiot reporter.
paper tiger, great post.

I agree that this is a high stakes poker game.

But, here is why I think it is highly unlikely Jimbo gets back into the picture: With the word leaking out about Herman, it appears that Herman was their first choice. If Herman ends up going to TX, and LSU comes back to Jimbo and gives him what he wants (65 million over ten years?) it still looks like Jimbo was Plan B. I doubt Jimbo would want to be thought of as Plan B.

I suspect that Jimbo and Sexton set a price tag out there that they thought LSU would accept. LSU didn't accept it.

So, the question is what will Jimbo do if LSU comes back and says, "We changed our mind. We'll give you everything you asked for"?

1. Would LSU do that?
2. Would Jimbo take it, or would he raise the stakes, or would he just say, "You had your chance. No, thanks"?
quote:

If Jimbo comes to LSU, you would have been right since day one which invalidates your whole post.

Yeah, I could try and spin it that way. But, in reality, I would have just been wrong twice.

And, as we all know,.....

I've been wrong from day one on this thing.

Posted by bret75 on 11/24/16 at 10:36 pm
But, as I have consistently said, I know nothing.

I figured it was 90% that Jimbo was headed to LSU. I was wrong. I am surprised he isn;t going.

But, now, with all the confusion and mixed signals about Herman I will say this: Regardless of what happens with Herman, even if he doesn't go to LSU I will be SHOCKED, SHOCKED if Jimbo goes to LSU now.

No matter what went on behind the scenes if Herman goes to TX, or anywhere else or even stays at Houston, the perception would be that Jimbo is Plan B. I cannot believe that any coach of the stature of Jimbo would allow himself to be "the fall back position."

So, I honestly and sincerely hope y'all land Herman. I've liked LSU since the days of Billy Cannon, Paul Dietzel and the Chinese Bandits (very un-PC in today's world). Used to listen to the Saturday night games on WWL.

I just wish your offense had shown up last week against the gators. :wah:

It'll all probably work out. You'll probably get Herman.

But, remember, I've been wrong from day one. :geauxtigers:
Sumlin may be gone after this performance.

Was that Chad Morris I saw high-fiving his agent?
espn covering their basis.

Note the wording. If Herman goes to TX, the two writers can say, "Well, we told you that was possible."

Statement from LSU Administration.

I apoligize if this has already been posted. Posts are coming so fast, I can't keep up.

quote:

“There are a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about LSU’s coaching search. We will not comment on this speculation and are currently focused on our game against Texas A&M. There is a process in place for the search, and we will take our time to make sure the best decision is made for the future of the program.”
Someone in the media has to be at Herman's hotel in Memphis desperately trying to ask him about the rumors.

At some point tonight we should hear, "Attempts to contact Tom Herman were unsuccessful" or "When reached Tom Herman delcined to comment."
