For what it's worth, here's why I think it's Herman

I think the Jimbo information is a smokescreen, that the Orgeron information is to keep him and the team motivated, and that the real target and next coach will be Tom Herman. Reasons:

(1) The announced time frame by LSU. Houston is done soon and it would be easy to turn around and announce Herman on short notice after they are finished. I think you could say the same about FSU, but I doubt seriously that LSU announces Jimbo a week after the FSU season ends. That would be strange for a school of that caliber to have that happen For Houston, though, it would not.

(2) Money. Herman will command less than Fisher.

(3) Misdirection. Also plays to (2). If you put it out that Jimbo is leading the race, you have leverage in negotiation with Herman. It also throws people off your primary target to avoid a bidding war.

(4) Aranda. Herman and Aranda have ties and it is likely Aranda would have less issue with Herman than with Fisher. LSU clearly wants to keep Aranda. This would make it easier.

(5) Texas. They are apparently announcing that Strong will be retained. I doubt Herman stays another year at Houston, especially since the Big 12 decided not to expand. USC has turned it around and won't be open. Notre Dame might become open, but is that a better job than LSU? No. So where else would Herman go? LSU.

(6) News. Earlier this year all signs pointed to Herman being the guy. He was asked about it in interviews, and it was discussed on ESPN Gameday. Fisher was spurned last year, or turned LSU down, depending on what you read. Hard to think he comes now, and Herman stays put.

Take all of that for whatever it's worth. I don't think our guy is Jimbo. I think it's Herman, and I think it'll be announced in about 2 weeks. It just makes too much sense.

Your theory makes sense. But you forgot the bumbling idiot administration and money people at LSU. They are complete asshats.

This is a little out there, but I'll upvote anyway for not falsely claiming to have inside sources.

Unfortunately, I don't believe Aleva knows how to play 4-dimensional chess. I'm still pulling for Herman though. Maybe they actually did learn from last year and decided to leak false information this time around to keep the press off Herman while also leveraging a raise for Jimbo.

Hope like mad you're right but wow...

That scenario involves SO much competence. Not sure Alleva and the $ people behind the scenes at LSU are that savvy.

I'd like to believe that our administration is capable of this, but sadly, i really doubt that's the case.

Im going to go ahead and brace for the worst(O),and pray that it's someone else. Jimbo, Herman, Fleck, Mullen, Gundy, Fedora, Morris. Basically anyone who's successfully run a program at some point.

I can get behind this logic.

I think it should Herman or Fisher. Period. Anything less is extremely underwhelming. Being forced into a situation that requires LSU to hire O makes this entire coaching search a complete failure.

Good possibility that this is the case if LSU's admins learned a lesson after last seasons disaster.

My only concern about Herman is what will happen when Texas hires a new AD and Strong under performs again next season? Will he bolt if they offer him?

Lot of folks thinking that all the talk about Jimbo may be a smokescreen. Here is why I don't think it is:

If LSU was just putting out rumors about Jimbo to deceive people and if Jimbo was not the least bit interested in the job he could fix that immediately.

If Jimbo was just being used by LSU as a decoy and he had no interest in LSU he would merely say, "Look. I'm not interested in LSU. I'm not going to LSU. I have told my agent I'm not interested in LSU. I don't know who started the rumors, but I will make it very clear - I'm not going to LSU."

Note: Some of y'all are thinking, "I'm not going to Alabama."

But, here is the difference. Bama wanted Saban. they weren't putting his name out as a smokescreen. They were actively pursuing him.

If you believe that LSU isn't pursuing Jimbo, that LSU is just using Jimbo as a decoy, then Jimbo could and would squash that immediately.

Why would Jimbo want his team distracted before the Florida game wondering if he was leaving? And, more importantly, why would Jimbo sit back and let LSU use him like a pawn? There would be no advantage to Jimbo to be used by LSU.

Now, is it gonna be Jimbo? I don't know. LSU may hire Herman. They may hire Fedora. They may hire Orgeron.

But, there is at least some mutual interest between Jimbo and LSU. Jimbo is not the type of guy who would be used by another school that he has zero interest in going to.

This is what scares the bejeezus out of me. If we are truly down to only Jimbo, Fedora and O after two months of shopping coaches, that's a bit of a red flag. I hope the smokescreen theory has some merit. Just doesn't sound like we have a very substantial Plan B.

To get more money to be able to get better coordinators, or better paid ones at least.

Then when Strong flames out next year or the year after at UT they will offer the bank to Herman and he will be gone. Fisher will then tell LSU to bite a big one and Coach O will be at Alabama.

All equals LSU screwed!

To bret75, I considered that. I would agree in part, except that Jimbo's agent is Sexton. He has played that same card multiple times to get more for his clients, even when there is zero true interest for his client to go elsewhere.

I also like the point a couple of posts up about Jimbo wanting FSU to pony up more for coordinators, because they are pretty stingy in that department if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think so. He might if the USC job came open in a few years, or he might for an NFL job, but I think he'd be here at least three years and would need to be uber successful for either of those to happen. Or he might love it and stay in BR for 30 years kicking arse and taking names.
