From Carolina Panthers website...
quote:
Jake Peetz was named Carolina's quarterbacks coach under new head coach Matt Rhule in January 2020. He spent the 2019 season with the Panthers as running backs coach, helping Christian McCaffrey put together a record-breaking season. Peetz has 10 years of NFL experience, spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2008-12), Washington Redskins (2014) and Oakland Raiders (2015-17).
Under Peetz's guidance, McCaffrey became the third player in NFL history with over 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. He led the NFL with 2,392 scrimmage, the third-most scrimmage yards in a single season in NFL history. McCaffrey reset his own NFL record for most receptions by a running back with 116 in 2019, becoming just the second NFL player with 1,000+ rushing yards and 100+ receptions in the same season.
In 2018, Peetz served as an offensive analyst at Alabama under head coach Nick Saban, a position Peetz also held in 2013. The Crimson Tide led all SEC teams last season with 522.0 yards per game and 45.6 points per game.
Peetz coached quarterbacks in his final two seasons in Oakland (2016-17), serving as assistant quarterback coach in 2016 and quarterbacks coach in 2017. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr earned two of his three consecutive Pro Bowl selections working with Peetz. Peetz originally joined the team as a senior offensive assistant in 2015, working primarily with the running backs. He helped Latavious Murray earn Pro Bowl honors after rushing for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns, the first 1,000-yard rushing season by a Raider since 2010.
Peetz spent one year with Washington as the offensive quality control/assistant wide receivers coach in 2014. In his one season working with Peetz, Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson led the NFL with an average of 20.9 yards per reception and led the team with 1,169 receiving yards.
His NFL coaching career began in 2012 as Jacksonville's offensive assistant/assistant quarterbacks coach. Before joining the team's coaching staff, he worked in scouting, serving as the team's BLESTO scout in 2010-11 after starting as a scouting assistant in 2008.
Peetz began his coaching career with two years on the collegiate level at Santa Barbara City College (2006) and UCLA (2007).
Peetz played defensive back at Nebraska from 2003-05 prior to entering the coaching ranks.

So out of all of that, he has never actually called plays

I was not familiar with him prior to this past week, but the more I read about him, the more I can see the fit. Thanks for sharing his bio.

You can't satisfy the rant. They don't want some experienced OC who has call plays because they are a retread, but they also don't want two hot young names who have worked closely with Joe Brady and are well regarded.
Brady had never called plays before either that turned out well. Considering we have the same playbook they would be coming from in the NFL and both have good resumes I'd say we give this a chance.
It's infinitely better than freaking Linehan was. Can also be no worse than Slinger.

I really don't think this has to be a prerequisite for the job nor should it be. If it was, it's a fantastic way to miss out on bright up and coming talent that is ready for more responsibility. Just because you hire someone that has called plays for decades doesn't mean they are going to be a success either as we have seen. There are lots of young guys in the NFL now that are getting head coach and OC jobs with little to no experience doing either.
As for Peetz/Mangus in general, it's pretty interesting that they seem to be coming as a team. I wonder whose side that idea was on.

The next flip out on here will be “but can he cruit?” Meanwhile we signed a top 5 class with no coordinators at all

He was recommended by Joe Brady. If Joe thought he couldn't call plays, he probably wouldn't have rec'd him.
Brady knows offense. In case you forgot.

Yea, there's a very narrow window for the Rant to accept you. Can't be too old, regardless of your experience. You need to be young, but with a lot of experience.
How many 35-year-old play callers are there? Not very many

IMHO, if you are putting a product on the field that appears you are attempting to do what we did in 2019 (even if you don't succeed) AND you are relatable to recruits you can recruit on offense just fine. Recruiting offensive skill players is a jumbled combination of future promises, camps/evaluations, systems, and showing recruits on film what you will be using them for. It all has to paint a picture that excites them.
My definition of relatable: Has nothing to do with age or skin color. Relatable is, in this context, being able to talk technically about the system and to honestly communicate that players role (expectations+skill sets) in that system.

It’s Os job to maintain relationships and handle recruiting aspects. It’s the ocs job to not frick it up and win games. Joe Brady hated recruiting and it didn’t hurt us at all. Unless the guy is a fricking arse hole, which is definitely not the case, recruiting is not something I factor into this hire at all.
This is another rent a coach anyway. He won’t be here more than 2 years. successful or not. 3 tops.

We wouldnt have won a Natty if that was a requirement for our hires.

Peetz OC with DJ as PGC + Freeman DC would be an A+

Well, that would leave you Harrell, but he didn’t run the ball at USC enough this year even though he had terrible RBs, incredible WRs, and went undefeated into the PAC12 CG. Like you said, you CANNOT satisfy the Rant!

So Brady is willing to sacrifice two supposedly great coaches from his staff hurting his own future ability to get an NFL HC job? All for his love for O and LSU??
Just making sure I understand you correctly lol.

coaching friends look out for each other.
I’m sure Brady realizes this would be a great opportunity for them. If you try to keep your employees down, they’ll leave anyway.
