Sources tell FootballScoop LSU plans to request permission to interview New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen to be the Tigers’ next defensive coordinator. Nielsen is under contract, and so there’s always a chance the club could deny him permission to interview.

While there are other candidates under consideration, sources say Nielsen could be LSU’s next defensive coordinator if the interview happens and goes well.

One Team, One Podcast says it's going to be Nielsen. Sounds like it's pretty much a done deal after the formalities are completed.

Payton going to block it?

I still remember Payton making those comments about how unimpressed he was on Coach O coaching his DL. Always wondered if they had bad blood.

He didn't block Brady. He will not block any of his coaches from moving on should they want to.

O's had Payton come and talk to the team before, and Payton's been very complimentary of O in the press so I highly doubt it

Sean Payton doesn’t like to block his assistants from interviewing, so long as that’s what the assistant wants.

He said it after O abruptly left the Saints to go back to the college level. He was asked about it and he basically shite on O and implied he was going to get fired anyway though I don't think he directly said fire him.

Seemed like he was a little pissed at how he left.

The NFL and college are two different worlds. Spurrier and Saban both left the NFL like whipped dogs. Just because O is better suited to college doesn't mean he and Payton hate each other.

Payton gave an interview last year saying something along the lines of the Saints are the biggest fans of LSU and noting how hard the staff roots for O. Google if you like

I've never heard of this at all, O speaks very highly of Payton and the Saints

O and Sean are cool but I’m sure Sean is getting annoyed at O raiding his staff

Yeah, Payton was perturbed because O was always on the phone pumping up his interest in college jobs. It sounded like O was a distraction.

He's only hired Brady who was basically just an analyst.

It looks as if Nielsen is gone either way, whether to Detroit or LSU.

I was gonna say, that makes Payton look like a giant douche at the end of the day. Even if he doesn't want to lose Nielsen, that doesn't seem worth it.
