That's pretty retarded. Are you seriously comparing the skill sets of being an executive with those of being an athlete? I'm not even sure of how to respond to that. I don't even find it to be a remotely viable argument.

He had the same rhetoric each year at Ole Miss. His third year he was saying everything is going to change.

He was quoting Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll. He was saying he learned from his mistakes of the previous two years.

He's a damn good politician.

Here's my thing. Let him go prove it first. Let him run a program starting in the off season all the way through for a few years. If he's a good coach, he'll do well. But why would LSU want to be a testing ground for that?

I'm not saying he's off the list, but he's not the top person on the list plain and simple. I think a lot of you think just because we want someone else that that means we hate O with a passion. That's not it at all. There's just better, safer options out there.

Also, I'll add that I'm not saying its impossible he has changed. What he's doing as interim proves nothing about what he has learned about sustaining a program.

He needs to be the head man at a smaller program. LSU is not a guinea pig program.

Exactly. We're a top 5 job. We aren't a guinea pig program.

He has one head coaching job on his resume. It was in our division in our conference. And it was historically bad. No other programs near our status would ever consider hiring this man as head coach.

If he was from Nebraska, not one of our fans would want him to be hired as permanent head coach.

So would I.

But the incessant mocking of O and anyone who wants O (im not saying you, just in general) is misguided. I truly don't think there are many people that have him as the #1 guy. I think most people that defend him aren't afraid if he would become the next coach.

Despite what happened at Ole Miss 10 years ago, he has said & done all the right things. Yet people still discount what he is doing by saying "well he is just doing that to get the job!"... well, maybe it is. Or maybe that is just how he operates. Either way, it has been the right way. You can't twist that into a negative

List the reasons for using metrics and analysis. If you do, O is not even considered.
Keep it a business decision and what's best for the university.
Hire an a-hole that is demanding as hell and expects no less than perfection.

sorry you can't comprehend how that analogy can be used throughout most careers. I guess you are of the opinion that no one has ever failed miserably and then became successful? is that really what you are suggesting and having a hard time with...do i have to give examples of executives/ business owners etc for you to understand?

Its not a negative. Its just completely irrelevant on his resume IMO.

I'm not saying he can't be successful. We just don't know if he can be.

We aren't a guinea pig program. Let him prove it somewhere smaller first that is in a position to take such a huge risk at head coach.

First of all, he wasn't hired at Ole Miss to "sustain" their program. Their program was shite when he took over. So he couldn't rebuild a program that lost their best QB in school history the year before. Boohoo. Do you know how many coaches have been crippled by losing star QBs after long reigns of success? Places like Florida, Texas, and USC have never recovered. This isn't something new.

One the flip side(LSU), pull in top 5 recruiting classes regularly & then talk to me about sustaining a program.

Herman hasn't had a massive failure at head coach for which he has to prove he has learned from.

He is also an extremely successful coordinator and head coach so far.

And far more desired by major programs for a reason.

What I don't understand is surely everyone who roots for LSU must want a special coach to get the job. There is no part of Orgeron's resume that implies special results.

As interim at USC he was 5-2. Losing two of three games against good opponents. The team was 10-4 on the year and won their bowl game with Helton. He was not special. He did not improve his team.

He was terrible at Ole Miss compated to both Cutcliffe and Houston goddamn Nutt. Not special.

At LSU he has inherited a supremely talented team and possibly the best DC in cfb - but really has the same record that Miles would have probabaly had. Running up the score on terrible teams evaporates as a credential when you get shut out for the first time at home since 2002. Not special.

When you hire a new head coach at a top program you should be able to identify a history of improvement and achievement by that coach that makes his success seem likely, if not certain. There is just no good argument for exceptionalism when you look at Orgeron. Conversely, you can make arguments for handfuls of other candidates ranging from Jimbo to Herman or even coordinators like Aranda.

and I am not saying we should hire him ...the only thing I have said is he should be in the running. Doesn't mean first choice or even 2nd or 3rd.

I just think the anti O guys need to chill and let the process work itself out. frick can't we all just be happy CLM isn't the coach anymore

Again, it's not even comparable. Those that are trying to do so in an effort to promote O are being ridiculous.
