First of all, he wasn't hired at Ole Miss to "sustain" their program. Their program was shite when he took over. So he couldn't rebuild a program that lost their best QB in school history the year before. Boohoo. Do you know how many coaches have been crippled by losing star QBs after long reigns of success? Places like Florida, Texas, and USC have never recovered. This isn't something new.

One the flip side(LSU), pull in top 5 recruiting classes regularly & then talk to me about sustaining a program.

HE GOT WORSE AT OLE MISS. He was 0-8 in his 3rd year in conference with his players and staff.

He can be judged by his peers at Ole Miss as well and he was worse than all of them.

I have no problem eliminating Herman as a top choice as long as it means we don't consider O as a top choice.

If he was from Nebraska, not one of our fans would want him to be hired as permanent head coach.

Imagine your made up coach from Nebraksa walking into John Curtis Christian, West Monroe HS, Archibishop Rummel, or Catholic High.

Now imagine Coach O walking into these places.

Yea, no fricking shite. If he was from Nebraska with the same resume', no one would give a shite.

Miles is from Ohio and recruited those places just fine.

Give Gundy to O and let them compete in that weak conference. I'd bet your life O does better than Miles did.

That him being from Louisiana is not that important, but people are over valuing it to an insane degree.

I mean, I know none of us are high on Miles

but his resume' is undoubtedly better than Orgeron's

to say O is a better coach is a little short sighted

yes, O got more out of this current team

but Miles did a lot of other things right too and we tend to forget those things

I don't hold OM against O as much as other people do. Building a team like OM up to be a power would have been an improbable accomplishment.

That said, the fact that he can't do the improbable means that he is not an extraordinary coach. LSU is in a position where they can get top candidates, candidates that have the potential to be extraordinary. That's why O is not close to the top of the list. He is a great recruiter, but otherwise he is at best an ordinary coach. LSU can do better than ordinary.

That the supposed recruiting skill that is being so highly touted as a selling point for O being head coach is not a dispositive factor, nor is it as strong of a selling point as those who are touting it think it is.

Yea, and I think a lot of people don't know that he actually had a good offensive staff there. He had Hugh Freeze, Frank Wilson, Dan Werner.

For me, that's worth noting. Even with a good OC and staff, the program still had major issues. Just my opinion.

He did worse at Ole Miss than Cutcliff and Nutt and was sandwiched in between them.

Do people not understand how other major programs like Alabama, USC, and Michigan have wasted years with bad coaches who had state or school connections? Saban was born in West Virginia - not Louisiana and not Alabama.

Can we please not repeat the same mistakes again? Coaching is what matters. Wins and losses follow from coaching ability.

Because he doesn't have managerial skills. This isn't a surprise, nor is it an insult.

it basically comes down to if he can recruit, he can be successful. And we know he will recruit. Him being the coach is not some scary notion.

people want to keep acting like everyone wants him because of his accent. That is so fricking dumb but about what i expect from this board

I bet there are plenty of high school coaches that would pressure their players to come play for one of their own...purely my opinion though

Les Miles was a fantastic recruiter

Orgeron had good talent at Ole Miss his 3rd year and went 0-8 in conference. He was a terrible program manager. There was no institutional control and the game day coaching was a disaster. It was hilariously disorganized. I was in the student section at the time as an LSU fan and Ole Miss student laughing at the disarray.
