If Neilsen wants to be an NFL coach long-term, how would he and/or LSU suing an NFL team over a contract look? There’s no way he would take it to that point.

Doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a contract issue. Why choose to believe some reporting and not others? Honestly look like he could stay and get a raise/promotion or leave and get sued for breach of contract.
A "contract issue" can almost always be worked around with money from the future employer except in cases of direct competition. There is no way his agent is as incompetent as a "contract issue" that prevents a move with a promotion and a huge raise to a non-competitor makes him look....and it turns out he wasn't.

Looks like that is what he was looking for.

LSU could have helped him back out of this gracefully with the money I talked about above.

That “raise” will likely be half a mill to a million short of what he could have gotten here.
He got a significantly better job though.

Only if he becomes their DC in less than 2 years and gets another raise closer to what he would have made here.

Asterisk season joke? What does that have to do with my post?

He's the Assistant Head Coach of one of the winningest teams in football now. Come on man.

What do you not understand? I tried to explain this to you last night. Money is not everything to coaches and it doesn't necessarily mean LSU was a clear promotion. He's not even a DC and probably getting less money at the Saints yet he passed LSU up to stay. What does that tell you?
Like said, if you had perspective you'd see a move down to the college level even as a DC with maybe more money is not necessarily a "promotion" for him. He's in a nice position like Campbell was now where he might be getting a HC job and if Allen leaves, maybe DC here.
There's more risk involved with LSU than you'll admit which I'd imagine also played into his decision.

I think you are overplaying that a bit.
He wanted to be the dc and they agreed on it.
Then the saints wouldn't let him out. They threw him more money and a title to make it better but he wanted to take the job

That’s the Saints threatened to make it ugly if he left and gave him a promotion to smooth things over.

You seriously think the Saints held Nielsen hostage?
You can't be that naive. Yeah, they're going to promote a guy who wanted to go to LSU so bad and then risk him being completely disgruntled for not being released. So here's a minor pay raise and a promoted job...just stop. Do you know how stupid this sounds and not to mention how bad of a look it makes the Saints organization look if they did do it(which they didn't)?
Man you guys are zoned out and need to take your P&G glasses off.

Freeman, Arnet, Neilsen. Which you even said were plan A,B,C
Since the Auburn game, they knew about replacing Bo. They’ve had plenty of time to do all their due diligence on all top targets. Yet, they missed on Freeman, didn’t know about Arnet buyout or the clause in Nielsen’s contract. That’s why the time frame is important...given that amount of time, all vetting should have been complete...every stone over turned...yet, here LSU sits.
Who is the target now?

They never offered Arnett. It's smart to interview candidates. It's not a "loss" when you interview someone and decide not to offer them a job.
I'm hiring for a job right now. I interviewed three people today. I'm not planning on offering any of them.
Did I just go 0-3?
This is not a zero sum game. The only thing that matters is getting a great defensive coordinator. There's no deductions because you missed your first choice, or because it took longer than you wanted it to.
In October, no one will care how long it took, or that the guy was the 3rd or 10th choice -- as long as he is good.
And there are lots of good candidates. No one is a sure thing. I liked Freeman and Nielsen, but they both carry their own risks - as do all candidates.

You need to branch out on your news sources. Neither of these things are true.

He was in the top 3 of targets.
They didn’t know of the $2M buyout, therefore didn’t offer. That’s a miss by not doing your due diligence on vetting given the time you had to do so.
Same as not knowing about the clause in Nielsen’s contract and not giving a precessional courtesy call to SP. so it was blocked. That’s a miss for not doing your due diligence giving the time you’ve had to do so.
Idgaf about the time, it’s the process or lack of vetting given the length of time. That’s what you keep missing. Maybe at the refinery there’s not an extensive vetting process before an official interview, but in the coaching ranks, there is.

Arnets buyout was not known until his interview and tgat was the deterrent. Fact!
The clause was not known (that's not doing due diligence given time frame) and EO didn’t give a courtesy call to SP about Neilsen and the clause. So SP blocked it, which was his right. Fact.
