How long have they been looking for a DC? Since the 1st part of the season, it was obvious Orgeron completely bombed on his hire with Pelini.

You act like at some point the saint weren’t gonna find out we hired Nielsen. We literally just told them.

which makes LSU look even worse trying to get their media guys to tweet out it was just the saints not letting him go.

Absolutely. The biggest issue I have with this whole search is O keeps showing his cards in the middle of the hand. Geez man, can you just keep it zipped up until the dotted line is signed.

except for O spelling it out in the media that was his guy since early last week

Regardless, the spin that Nielsen was forced to stay with the saints and its not a choosing them over LSU is total bullshite. The Saints aren't the villain for retaining their talent and trying to make that the spin will only make us look worse and further strain the relationship.

yep I can't believe they'd pull a stunt like giving a coach they view as a rising star a raise and promotion to stay. That's just not how business is conducted in this state

Sucks that we don’t have a DC, but the timeframe is still not relevant.

Time had nothing to do with losing the candidates so far, and won’t factor into the eventual hire.

I never posted that Time was a factor. I pointed out when the Process started, which was early November. You keep taking that as though Im suggesting a hire should have been made in December, which I haven’t.

Which I is what I told you dumbasses last night to stop saying this is a promotion for him to go here. He might not see it that way and he might have a position as DC if Allen leaves. Obviously he doesn't see it as a promotion because that pot just got sweetened at NO.

It’s been made very clear that he wanted to leave. This wasn’t a ploy for a raise You and your fricking straw man.

Nielsen’s agent may be answering some tough contract questions from clients this week. It doesnt look good for anyone, but the agent looks completely incompetent. He and his staff should have a complete understanding of every client’s contract.

the Saints look petty as frick,

It doesn't look bad for the Saints at all, because literally every single NFL team does something like this all the time.

In fact it looks great for the Saints. They put in a smart contractual clause AND promoted and kept a great coach.

well looks like Allen is interviewing with Eagles for their HC job so if that was known I can see why the Saints balked at letting Nielsen leave the camp as he is the ideal replacement for Allen if he takes Eagles job. Looks like LSU got caught in btw unfortunately

The current relationship between LSU and the Saints seems unhealthy. They should have been able to work this out privately without O looking like a dumbass and Payton looking like a bitch.

I'm guessing they gave him a big raise and a promise on paper of DC whenever Dennis Allen leaves.

They had to give the man something if they are going to hold him

Here’s an issue everyone who thinks Nielsen was playing games should consider. Beyond the fact that he knows O well and is unlikely to do that to him, there could have been long-term ramifications on him returning to the NFL if he walked away from this deal.

If the Saints weren’t going to bargain with LSU, other teams would likely have looked very unfavorably on him breaking the contract. If he sees the NFL as his long-term future and the Saints weren’t going to talk buyout, then there’s no way he could take that risk.

He could get out of his contract obligations if he wanted out of NO.

That’s not what most of the media quotes are saying.

I really hope Nielsen gets an NFL DC offer then and takes it.

As a Lions fan, I would laugh my arse off if they gave Nielsen an instant exit for more money. He deserves it after this bush league bullshite.

LOL- Nielsen will be getting a fat raise from the saints. If he wanted to be the DC, LSU would have cut the saints a check and said thanks.

That “raise” will likely be half a mill to a million short of what he could have gotten here.
